A little throwback to the Hope Hack event in November organised by Derby and Derbyshires Violence Reduction Unit. A fantastic event I was able to visit alongside pastoral team and students from Derby College. This event involved a range of different professionals from different areas, highlighting the importance of young people's voices and discussing tricky topics, and what we can do to make it inclusive and safe society. A few were the following; Nathan Addai from MentalRoots discussing the importance of connection, and creating a safe space through story-telling of mental health with his short film. StreetDoctors discussed statistics around knife crime and provided an induction of the importance of being aware of how to deal with emergency situations through first-aid skills, and the impact it has on communities. Strizzy Strauss who is a rapper and youth mentor, discussing the importance of creativity to support our own struggles and how we can overcome them through doing things we love. Derbyshire Constabulary discussed the relationships between young people and the police, giving the young people a voice to help build that connection. And finally, Jamie Dean from Derby City Council giving a paramount presentation focused on social media and the advantages and disadvantages of it. Overall, a well informative day that kept the students engaged throughout and allowed them to use their voice.
