Retailers today face more than just competition – they’re up against serious security challenges that impact their bottom line. In many urban areas, stores close because they’re losing too much to theft and security concerns. Drugstores, retail shops, and even some larger chains are rethinking the cost of keeping certain locations open. It’s not just about the physical products; it's about ensuring a safe environment for customers, staff, and assets alike. Whether it’s keeping an eye on potential hazards in common areas or managing access for both visitors and vendors, staying vigilant in busy environments is no longer optional. The good news? Tech can be the bridge to smarter oversight. Imagine having constant visibility over everything happening in real time. Curious how this could change your security approach? Reach out to see how we’re shaping safer spaces with innovative solutions. #retailsecurity #urbanretail #proptech #oversight Kenneth Schuckman (Real Estate Wealth Manager)

This has been my #retailrealestate week with ICSC closed door meetings and the Urban Land Institute conference and council meetings. A few takeaways: 1) everyone was WAY more optimistic than expected 2) the future of office is still a discussion point, but everyone is much less worried vs a year ago 3) the future of the store is bright and everyone kept citing the Amazon fears before COVID leading to better stores and store experiences today 4) the best malls (let’s call it top 150) are fully leased and thinking creatively about more space 5) #redevelopment, #sustainability and ORC (organized retail crime) continue to be hot topics Wrapping up these knowledge-building four days with the clouds clearing on a high floor of the Empire State Building and we snapped this great one (photo creds to Robert Taubman with our new friend Patrick A. Smith). Coresight Research
