Sidekick is proudly female-founded, and for this week's #SidekickStories, in the spirit of #internationalwomensday, we are celebrating Jessi's journey, our Customer Communications & Insights Manager. 👋 My name is Deborah Jessi, but everyone calls me Jessi. I was born in Romania and moved to Italy when I was 14. After that, I moved to London to continue my studies. I joined Sidekick in 2020 when Sidekick took over The Office Group sites. At that time, I was going to university in the morning and studying for my dream career while working part-time as an Evening Office Cleaner. 🏢 After the pandemic hit, I was soon asked to come back to support with essential works. Shortly after, Sidekick created a new department: the CAFT team; a department built to take care of the health and wellbeing of office workers. I joined the CAFT team, and I oversaw 3-4 buildings per day. During this time, I was asked to test a new sanitising machine and write a brief review in few bullet points. 💻 Instead, I took a chance and created a Sidekick branded PowerPoint outlining the key strengths and weaknesses of the machine alongside a strategy for how to get the most from it. That’s just my personality, I’ve always dedicated all my time and interest to the job I was performing, no matter what it may be. I can’t do a job if I’m not interested. It paid off because soon after I was offered a role in the office as Assistant Evening Manager! 📈 As Sidekick continued to grow, I was promoted to 2nd Area Manager, taking over half the portfolio and working closely with Santa, the lead. In my managerial roles, I always placed myself in the operative’s shoes; I had to understand what their challenges were to help them to overcome them. As I had done their role, it was easy for me to understand and to help. 📆 After 7 months, I was promoted to Assistant Account Manager. It was a big step up for me, but I learned quickly and gained confidence, assisting Tereza to run over 40 sites. Exactly 1 year later, I was asked to attend a meeting with Angela and Tereza in the same building where my journey with Sidekick started in 2020. I was nervous and I did not know what to expect. 🌟 I was offered the role of Account Manager! It was unexpected but I was grateful for the opportunity and for more responsibility; it gave me a lot of confidence in my capabilities and gave me a deeper understanding of the contractual side of the business. I loved (and still do!) working so closely with our customers towards a shared purpose. 💛 After 4 great years at Sidekick, I am embarking a new journey as Communications and Insights Manager. I have always been interested in trend forecasting, consumer behaviour, strategic thinking, and future planning, so I love working with the Marketing Department and exploring my creativity through visual communication. This journey has brought me closer to my dream career and to who I want to become as an individual. #smallstepsbigleaps

💥 My Journey from Office Administrator to Director: A Story of Growth 💥 I still remember the day I walked into that small office twelve years ago, fresh out of college and eager to make my mark. As an office administrator in the security and cleaning industry, my role seemed simple at first – answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing paperwork. But little did I know, it was just the beginning of an incredible journey. With each passing year, I dove deeper into the inner workings of the company. I soaked up knowledge, learning about business management, security provisions, cleaning protocols, and client relations. Every task, no matter how mundane, was an opportunity for me to grow and excel. As time went on, I began to take on more responsibilities. I became a team leader, then a manager, and eventually, a member of the executive team. Each promotion was a step closer to my goal. But it wasn't always easy. I faced skepticism, industry knock backs and doubt from others and from within myself. There were moments when I questioned whether I had what it took to succeed. But I refused to let fear hold me back. I embraced every challenge as an opportunity for growth, turning setbacks into stepping stones and criticism into fuel for improvement. And slowly but surely, I began to rise through the ranks. Today, I am proud to say that I am the Co-Director/Co-Owner of the company. I oversee a team of dedicated professionals, hoping to guide them with wisdom born of experience and a deep understanding of the industry. My journey from office administrator to director has been filled with ups and downs, but through it all, I have never lost sight of my goals and the bigger picture. My story is a reminder that success is not determined by where you start, but by how far you're willing to go. It's a testament to the power of ambition, hard work, and resilience. And it's a reminder that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible.
