While at Student Quarters, I had the privilege to oversee multiple property upgrades during my 5-year tenure managing the Lookout’s maintenance and capital improvements. Implementing LED lighting and low flow shower heads not only helped control costs for our residents but also contributed to sustainability efforts. Introducing local plant life through new landscaping initiatives in the Cragmor neighborhood not only enriched food sources but also led to the resurgence of thousands of honey bees. Swapping green shrubs for indigenous lavender and sage plants created a fresh food source for local bees, benefiting the UCCS farm. Embracing environmental stewardship is a shared value across all faiths. For me, it means tending to the most vulnerable among us and safeguarding the land entrusted to us by God. In the words of Matshona Dhliwayo, "Look into wisdom’s eyes and you will see nature. Look into nature’s eyes and you will see the world. Look into the world’s eyes and you will see the universe. In a new report unveiled in Canberra today, the Property Council of Australia and GBCA are calling for sustainability driven planning incentives and reforms.   Titled, 'Every Building Counts: for state and territory governments', the report outlines a series of policy recommendations centred on property that can help Australia reach its decarbonisation goals. Green Building Council of Australia CEO Davina Rooney said the report outlined the need for long-term strategies for zero-carbon-ready buildings and homes, and that governments must turbocharge the shift to high-performance sustainable buildings and homes. “Incentives have the potential to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient and distributed technologies in both new and existing buildings," Ms Rooney said.
