DOING THE BASICS (VERY) WELL I really like this from UKTV. Especially the elegant simplicity of the design/VIS. These briefs are a bit tricky. Your part of what is sold is the intangible (selling a pipe). It’s all pretty generic in terms of what you actually DO. Everyone gets confused these days as to what’s a streaming service, what’s owned by terrestrial telly and what comes free with the set. The content is key and people think they can get it anywhere (and the content is really all you’ve got to sell). So how do you inject personality or charm into it? I think they’ve done it well here. The identity is simple, powerful, premium and I’ve noticed it. The telly ad with Cher won’t have anyone high-fiving down La Croissette but it gets the message over and made me smile. The creative executional vehicle gives a simple frame to place the hero portrait of telly content, and looks premium. As this OOH shows it has enough flexibility for fun. So a tricky brief & one I’ve seen naffed up many times (mostly by Sky) done well. And I think mostly executed in-house. Meet TREMBLR, the third in my latest batch of new personal passion projects. I created an activation campaign to announce this new streaming service dedicated to elevated horror. Activation campaigns are a mainstay of new properties, allowing consumers to know who are, what you stand for, what makes you different and when you'll be available. The result of all this? Awareness. Even if you are the best in the world, people cannot purchase your product or sign up for you service if the they don't even know you exist. For TREMBLR, the idea was to introduce people to the world of elevate horror. The desired outcome here is pre-launch sign-ups to wake up connoisseurs of high-end horror to TREMBLR's impending existence. So, the metaphor of the clock was used. Specifically, the iconic style of a classic clock combined with horror creating "Ragnaclocks" But we also had to defy expectations, speak somehow to the higher quality of the films on TREMBLR and also, avoid the biggest mistake of all ,that "all horror fans are the same." So, some strategic decisions were made. While that there are horror fans, they don;t love all genres. Some are zombie fanatics, others werewolves or slasher only viewers. Armed with this knowledge, myriads of clocks were created based off of the sub-genres of horror. This helped emphasize the YOUR in the awareness campaigns "Set Your Clocks" headline/ To communicate the high-end horror and highlight the scary faces of each clock, the styling of fashion photography was chosen. Lastly, we also set out to make these scary faces available in Smart Watch format which could either be used as a regular clock or set as a countdown timer, running backwards until the scream to life upon the networks launch day.
