Did you know that over 800,000 people accessed food banks in Ontario between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023? Hunger is one of society’s most pressing issues and why Kindred chose Hunger as one of our social impact focus themes. We aim to work with, and alongside, organizations who seek to make a positive impact in their communities. One of those organizations is Anishnabeg Outreach (AO), who is actively addressing this issue within the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities of the Waterloo Region and Guelph. They meet a variety of social, spiritual, and practical needs in the urban First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities. They offer programs focused on children, employment, and healing, as well as a culturally-appropriate food program. Did you know that if you do not have enough food to lead an active, healthy lifestyle; you choose between spending money on food or other bills; or you eat fewer meals or less expensive and less healthy meals because you cannot afford to buy nutritious food, you may be experiencing food insecurity?   The SOUPer Bowl of Caring kicks off today through February 12th to raise awareness about food insecurity and to highlight how you can help us tackle hunger.   The University of Virginia School of Architecture operates a satellite food pantry in Campbell Hall to support students who experience food insecurity. Giving back to the team, fighting food waste and supporting local business - it's a win-win-win scenario. Fortnightly, we purchase the short-dated food from a local grocers and give it all away to the team F.O.C. This #HungerActionMonth, Dairy West is excited to announce our collaboration with Tackle Hunger to combat food insecurity across the nation. During this crucial month and throughout the year, we are committed to ensuring that essential dairy foods are within everyone’s reach. The FAM industry contributes significantly to charitable efforts aimed at feeding the hungry and addressing food insecurity. Here are some ways the industry gives back: 1. Food Donations: Company donate surplus food products to food banks, shelters, and other organizations that help feed the hungry. 2. Hunger Relief Programs: Company partner with organizations to support hunger relief initiatives. 3. Food Waste Reduction: The industry implements initiatives to reduce food waste throughout the supply chain, ensuring more food reaches those in need. . These charitable efforts demonstrate the FAM industry commitment to addressing hunger and food insecurity, making a positive impact on communities worldwide.

I recently did a radio interview and I was asked what have nurseries got to do with climate change. I explained that the decisions we make regarding the three pillars of sustainibaility ( economic, social and environmental) are critical to how we look after the planet which will be inherited by our youngest citizens; our babies! At LEYF our sustainability strategy is hooked around the three pillars and how we lead, our operations and social pedagogy. Using Green Bottoms Ltd is one way of making sustainable decisions, that will go some way to reduce the huge nappy landfill. A baby gets through 4000-6000 nappies by the time they are potty trained and every year, 167 billion nappies are produced using 248.5m barrels of crude oil. They are hard to recycle because of the mix of materials and human waste, so the vast majority end up in landfill and take 100 years to degrade. Therefore biodegradable nappies that are recycled to build roads is the way to go. Every decision you make is a positive step, so think about partnerships that help reduce waste,
