🚌Need an example of how electrifying our school bus fleets helps build new manufacturing capacity and jobs in the clean economy? Thanks to a new nearly $80 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Blue Bird Corporation will be doing just that — converting an existing plant in Georgia to produce zero emissions buses! Kudos to CEO Phil Horlock, President Britton Smith, Director of Electrification Andy Moore and team! ⚡️ Bird Body Company intends to convert a prior Internal Combustion Engine ("ICE") vehicle manufacturing location to a new 600,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility for the production of zero-emission electric school buses while focusing on the education and training of its current and future workforce. 🛠️This project will integrate automotive related suppliers in the area into the EV production vertical and boost the domestic supply chain of EV components. Also, Blue Bird will work with a local full-service design-build construction firm, providing an additional investment in the construction workforce in Middle Georgia. 👷♀️Blue Bird projects adding more than 400 new, high-paying, and highly skilled jobs; upskilling the current workforce in partnership with the USW in electric vehicle technology. Blue Bird is also committed to providing a robust Community Benefits Plan that includes training partnerships with regional high schools to create a local talent pipeline and investments in childcare to help working parents. ⬇️ See here for more details: https://lnkd.in/emTPHuec

If Michiganders understood how Gov. Whitmer squandered billions of dollars of taxpayer monies and was played for a fool by GM and Ford, my guess is she’d wear disguises to avoid being recognized. For years, Whitmer has claimed that she was creating “good paying jobs” to ensure Michigan remained America’s automotive capital as the industry transitioned to electric vehicles. GM CEO Mary Barra and top Ford officials were in on the con, appearing with Whitmer at news conferences vowing their EV commitments to the state. The nonpartisan Bridge News reports that so far Michigan has spent $1 billion and only 200 factory jobs have been created. Meanwhile, a tech publication reports that Ford has created 300 jobs in southern California focused on building a low-cost EV. Barra recently announced the opening of a tech center in the Bay area, where two of GM's top executives will be located. It's a safe bet that the jobs Ford and GM are creating in California pay at least four times the 200 jobs Whitmer subsidized in Michigan. Adding insult to injury, Barra said GM was expanding in California because that’s where the talent is. Good luck to Michigan attracting tech businesses when the state’s best-known CEO has dissed the talent pool. Bridge reports that Michigan has spent more than $500 million subsidizing two GM plants, the openings of which have been delayed. That’s on top of the $3.5 billion in subsidies GM received from the state and hoped to keep secret. Meanwhile, GM will spend $16 billion buying back its depressed stock under Barra’s ten-year tenure, while she’s paid nearly $30 million a year. Bridge cites the expansion of a battery plant near Grand Rapids as a rare success. The $3 billion plant expansion is the result of Toyota committing to buying some capacity. Toyota has committed to spend more than $18 billion on its US EV investments, and unlike GM and Ford, the company has raised its commitments multiple times. Other foreign manufacturers have committed to building their EVs in the U.S., including Scout, the VW subsidiary that’s reviving an iconic SUV brand. Scout’s CEO said he couldn’t imagine building an iconic American vehicle outside the U.S. Ford, which claims it’s “All In On America,” proudly builds the electrified version of its iconic Mustang in Mexico, where it has substantial engineering operations and builds its Bronco Sport and Maverick pickups. Scout’s design facilities are in suburban Detroit. Toyota has an R&D facility in Ann Arbor. Apparently, foreign companies can find some talent in Michigan. Whitmer has also failed to improve education, where Michigan was just ranked among the bottom ten states. The state’s “damn roads,” as Whitmer called them, remain among the worst in the country. She allowed a world-class hospital in suburban Detroit to languish. Whitmer has failed her state and will be long gone before the damage she’s caused is recognized. https://lnkd.in/g_mkBrkz #michigan #gm #ford #electricvehicles
