Last week we visited several major recyclers to study the washing processes of PET and HDPE recycling. What we see really opened up our eyes. A washing line for food grade rPET flake production could be 180 meters long, and is very different from those of producing general polyester stable fibre, the largest application market for PET recycling still. Besides, the washing line for HDPE recycling has their own special setup, which is different from those of PET recycling. The insights we get from this trip will help us provide more first-hand information to DfR stakeholders and packaging producers. #recycling #plasticrecycling #DfR #packagingdesigner #petbottle

RPET is a common packaging material. 📦 But what exactly is RPET? RPET stands for Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (RPET). Put simply, it’s a plastic made from repurposed waste PET from businesses and consumers. 🥤 It’s also the most commonly used material by manufacturers to help improve sustainability. RPET is easy to mould and shape: it can be used to make trays, containers, thin sheet packaging and bottles. It has low production costs. PET production (including virgin and recycled) reached 3.9 million tonnes in the same year. What Is PET? Polyethylene terephthalate plastic (PET) is a type of plastic resin that is highly flexible, colorless and semi-crystalline. Depending on how the PET is to be used, it is either semi-rigid or rigid. PET plastic is prized by beverage and food companies because it can be used to make lightweight bottles and containers in a myriad of shapes, with excellent clarity and product protection. Why might customers choose a Georganics toothpaste?
