Our team had a blast at Monmouth University’s Employee Wellness Fair last week! It was really rewarding to see how excited employees were when we shared about our benefits/customer service team. In addition, we set up a 'trail mix' bar to encourage healthy snacking. We even came across a few people who were really appreciative of having this snack instead of their usual ‘chips’ or ‘candy’. Did you know that eating healthy at work can lead to increased energy levels, improved concentration, and enhanced productivity throughout the day? Additionally, making nutritious food choices can support overall well-being, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and contribute to a positive work environment by promoting employee health and morale. What kinds of healthy snacks do you bring with you for your workday?

It's important to consider the risks associated with implementing non-monetary promotions. On one hand, these promotions can provide great opportunities for our amazing employees to enhance their skills and really understand the ins and outs of our business. Now, let's dive into some helpful guidelines that employers like us can follow to effectively utilize non-monetary promotions and make sure our team members thrive.
As a hospitality manager, implementing non-monetary promotions can carry some risks. Proactive Design Leader | Senior Manager at Mace | Author of 'Beyond Busy' | Bringing Designs to Life
"How can design ensure that everyone returns home 🏡 safe and well?" This question has been on the top of my mind, especially since Mace refreshed its Health, Safety, and Wellbeing branding a few weeks ago. I’ve been engaging in several conversations around it. Some were satisfying while others even provocative, with a lingering question: "What role does design play in safety when it's primarily about site management?" With 17 years immersed in design, I firmly believe design isn’t just about aesthetics or function of a building; it’s about proactive measures. Structural safety, fire and life safety, environmental regulations – these aren't mere check-boxes; they're embedded in the DNA of design, forming the front line of defense. Beyond mandatory requirements, good design crafts safe spaces by: 🔸 Choosing durable and non-hazardous materials 🔸 Prioritizing child safety and fall prevention with proper handrails, rounded edges, and suitable furniture 🔸 Designing for barrier-free movement through accessible and inclusive spaces 🔸 Implementing clear signages for danger zones, emergency exits and well-lit areas to eliminate dark zones 🔸 Strategically planning utilities to segregate high-risk zones and clear evacuation routes 🔸 Identifying potential hazards like tripping risks, slippery surfaces, olfactory concerns, and visual barriers Even in the design phase, visualizing the feasibility and safety of those executing the plans is crucial. I recall a few years back; we deliberated for months on a specific design element as a concern was raised about workers operating at heights. Such proactive engagements, design reviews, and involving relevant stakeholders epitomize the right ethos - Observe, Engage, Improve. For a comprehensive approach, adequate training and development and communication of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at construction sites from top to bottom undoubtedly build a culture of safety. 👉👉 That’s how we contribute behind the scenes to ensure everyone goes home safe and well. Have I covered all aspects? Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments. #DesignForSafety #HealthAndWellbeing #SafetyFirst

🥪 Lunch Laws 🏅 With the Olympics fully underway we may be watching the beach volleyball against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, equestrian events at the Château de Versailles, or athletics at the Stade de France at our desks. 🗼But with France in the spotlight as the host of the Olympics, UK employers might consider evaluating their workplace arrangements to learn valuable lessons. 🍃 In France, the labour code passed in 1894 bans workers from eating in the workplace mandates workers to change their scenery for lunch. ⚔️These guidelines protect the sanctity of lunchtime and encourage workers to fully savour their breaks. 🎄 It's the most wonderful time of the year! But before you start planning your festive office holiday party, make sure you're aware of the top 3 legal considerations for small businesses in Canada. 🎉✨ 1️⃣ Workplace Health and Safety: Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all employees during the celebration. Consider accessibility, fire safety, and any potential risks associated with activities or alcohol consumption. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety provides helpful resources for workplace safety. [Source: www.ccohs.ca] 2️⃣ Alcohol Service: If you plan to serve alcohol, be aware of your legal responsibilities. Obtain the necessary permits, implement a responsible alcohol service policy, and encourage restraint. Make sure to also provide alternative non-alcoholic beverage options for those who do not consume alcohol. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario offers guidelines and regulations. [Source: www.agco.ca] 3️⃣ Accommodation and Inclusivity: Respect and accommodate diverse religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds, and personal preferences. Plan a holiday party that is inclusive for all employees, regardless of their beliefs or traditions. The Canadian Human Rights Commission offers guidance on workplace accommodation.
