Real Hands on Working Experienced Engineers versus Graphic Engineers or PowerPoint Engineers: Have you realized that Professionals only have applied the most 10 % of those knowledge learned from Universities?  Have you still  remembered how Chemical Engineering Undergraduates calculating manually how many trays required for the fractioning column?  Have you remembered all those Calculus formulas?  Have you ever encountered any Engineers who haven't worked in any of the Plants or Factories, talking, mumbling about real Engineering experiences?  Have you met any Engineers who can't differentiate between a pump or a turbine?  Have you met any Engineers who are confused about cold box process flow?  Let's ponder : (1) That's why, ideally those Engineering Undergraduates who wanna do their Internship Programs to choose any Plants or Factories related to their disciplines.For instance , Petroleum Engineering Undergraduates to be attached with offshore installations. Chemical Engineering Undergraduates to be attached with any of Petrochemical Plants or Refineries.  (2) Same goes with Protege Programs. Choose the Plants or Factories that are merely related to your disciplines.  (3) Any newly Fresh Engineers ideally should expose themselves to the Plant Operations or Maintenance Engineering first for the first 2 to 5 years of their careers. After that, in the case of Chemical Engineers, then they may be assigned to respective Departments such as Technology, Production Planning, Project Management, Risk Management, HSE, Training Capability, Procurement - Tender & Contract, Operation Excellence and so forth.  (4) Avoid being Engineers of none, just acquired superficial knowledge, lacking of hands on technical working experiences, but only mastering graphics and PowerPoint huh.  (5) After 5 years, then the Engineers for instance may pursue any of Industrial Certificates such as Steam Engineer Grade 2 or 1, ICE - Internal Combustion Engine Engineer Grade 2 or 1, SHO Green Book, 6 Sigma, Tripod Beta, etc.  For further deliberations, over coffee session huh. Hahahaha.

I am delighted to share that I finished my training at Middle Delta for Electricity Production Co. at the period from 16 July to 4 Aug and this training was about : 1. Introduction to the company and the electrical sector: - Introduction to the company and its history. - An overview of the electrical sector and its importance. 2. Fundamentals of mechanical engineering in the electrical sector: - Mechanical engineering concepts and their applications in generating and transmitting electricity. - The importance of power mechanics in maintaining electrical equipment. 3. Electricity generation equipment: - Study the components of power plants and their functions. - Load and performance concepts. 4. Electricity transmission system: - Electricity distribution and transfer stations. - Controlling the electricity transmission system. 5. Safety and environmental specifications: - Safety procedures at work. - The impact of industry on the environment and how to deal with it. 6. Technology and innovation in the electrical sector: - Technical innovations and updates in the industry. - Using technology to improve efficiency and performance. 7. Practical project: - An applied project that allows students to apply the concepts they have learned in practical work. 8. Tours and field visits: - Visits to power generation and distribution stations to learn about practical work and equipment. The #airconditioning industry has seen exponential growth over the past two decades, but there's a serious shortage of engineers with the necessary skills to drive #projects, #design, and #sales. Unfortunately, the majority of fresh engineering graduates and even some senior engineers are choosing IT careers, leaving a significant void in the non-IT job market. This is due to a disparity in salaries between #IT and #nonIT engineers. Moreover, the number of seats for mechanical and electrical engineering courses in prominent engineering colleges is being slashed due to a lack of takers, which will have a ripple effect in the next 5-8 years. It's time to address this issue before it's too late. #engineering #airconditioning #skillshortage

Great news. Last week another two (2) New Graduates secured work in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Both International and both without PR and both with Minimal or no experience. One in (1) Civil taking 4 months and the Mechanical Graduates taking the better part of 12 months, due to family issues etc that arise averaged out probably close to 6 months. I can say there seems to be some more interest in hiring recently than in April and May, I suspect it's due to the end of the financial year combined with Projects getting the nod to proceed. Great starting point to enter a growing industry.

Is Ir/PE/Chartered status really worth pursuing for mechanical engineers? The routes that you choose for professional development should really depend on your goals & circumstances, not driven by "fear of missing out". In my humble opinion: if mechanical engineering/design/repair/research activities make up the biggest % of your total work experience as an engineer, Ir/PE/Chartered status will be very helpful in marketing your skills & experiences. I applied for Chartered status because it suits my goal of becoming a well-rounded engineer (having a good mix of mechanical, materials plus some civil knowledge), but with a bit of specialization in the mechanical space. Just remember that, regardless of whichever route you choose for professional development, your efforts will not go to waste 😊
