#NationalAgDay was founded in 1973 and is dedicated to increasing the public's awareness of agriculture's role in modern society. Invasive species and toxic substances are among the many threats to American agriculture and natural resources. Through targeting, detection, and interception, CBP agriculture specialists work to prevent these threats from entering the United States. Learn about this important role in safeguarding American agriculture - https://lnkd.in/e_XXyvae.
Today we honor and celebrate American farmers, farmworkers, ranchers, fishers, foresters and other agricultural workers who feed, clothe and fuel our nation. Happy National Ag Day!

I would consider this quite a breakthrough and I am pleasantly surprised and agree with this response from the California Coastal Commission. I am still curious about the flux of esp. Nitrogen (and also Carbon for calculation) in terms of their % retention in the yellowtail production. Ideally, we should turn all of it, sequentially into bacterial and micro- and macroalgal biomass and from there it could be turned into bivalve and shrimp protein, or some other invertebrate, or even finfish protein. How would the techno-economical analysis of such an operation look like, could it be made feasible?
Checking them off one at a time. Again unanimously. Great team effort in preparation and support from stakeholders and community. https://lnkd.in/e7z4EWEp

Meet the participants of our Forum Future Agriculture and learn more about the future of farming.
🎬 Dr. Thomas Gäbert is a Board Member of the Agrargenossenschaft Trebbin (Farmers' Cooperative Trebbin) in Brandenburg, Germany. In this interview with Thomas during our recent trip to Illinois with the U.S.-German #ForumFutureAgriculture, we hear from him about his business, why it is so important for farmers to have transatlantic exchange opportunities, and what he has taken away from the experience so far. 🌾 The U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture brings together U.S. and German farmers and other agriculture stakeholders to promote transatlantic dialogue on common challenges for the field of agriculture and rural regions and pave the way for a more sustainable agriculture future. The 2023 cohort of the project has focused on the core topic of climate change and brought together arable farmers from Eastern Germany and the Corn Belt in the U.S. Midwest. To find out more about the project, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eKY9bByj. 🤝 The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany, funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).

As Alice Martin-Prevel from Access to Land Network says: "Local authorities are key allies in the transition for agroecology in Europe". According to Access to Land Network local authorities can take action by: - Managing public land responsibly and to benefit the local community - Facilitating better local land systems by promoting local dialogue and democratic oversight on land issues - Using regulatory powers to preserve and enable access to farmland. There are so many things I loved about this webcast with Kassi Tom-Rowland. Kassi is part of a multi-generational farm, started by her grandfather. Under Ambassador Kip Tom's stewardship, Tom Farms has grown to be one of the largest farms in the US. Some of my favorite quotes from her translate so well to every business, irrespective of their size and industry! 1) On dealing with adversity: "It is so important to know you are going to have hard days, but there are going to be so many more good ones." 2) On a new customer: "We are always humbled when people ask us to farm their land." 3) On advice to new businesses: "...you should know your customers and what kind of relationships they want to have with you." Ticked off the Ekka Monday, so thought I’d head to Mackay today to talk future industry development with local leaders. There’s no shortage of opportunity as we seek to use our existing sector strengths to create the industries of the future. But here’s the strong message from today: Industry development solely for corporate profit isn’t the point. What about local community benefit? We are the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and we ask, what’s in it for Queenslanders? #whatsinitforus? #socialbenefit #economicprosperity

In a world where the sustainability of our food systems and the vitality of our rural communities are increasingly under threat, the role of small farms has never been more critical. Today, I'm excited to share a piece that goes to the heart of Revert Foods' mission and reflects our deep commitment to championing the unsung heroes of British agriculture: our small farmers. This blog post, 'Reviving the Heart of Britain: The Call to Support Our Small Farms,' delves into the myriad ways small farms enrich our environment, bolster our communities, and sustain our local economies. It's a celebration of their resilience, a reflection on their challenges, and, most importantly, a call to action for all of us to support these vital pillars of the British countryside. As we navigate the challenges of modernity and face the pressing issues highlighted by recent European protests, it's imperative that we rally behind the small farms that form the backbone of our agricultural heritage. I invite you to read, reflect, and join us in this crucial mission to nurture a sustainable, equitable, and thriving future for British agriculture. https://lnkd.in/e3d7ja_d
