Today, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944. On this day, Allied forces launched a massive naval attack on the beaches of Normandy, France, contributing to the eventful defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of World War Two in Europe. As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of this historic event, we also reflect on the vital role Pickfords played in supporting the war effort during the Second World War. During the war, Pickfords was more than just a removal company. Our dedicated drivers were on the front lines, transporting essential goods and ammunition to support Allied forces. One of Pickfords' most significant contributions was in the construction of the Mulberry Harbours. These temporary portable harbours were instrumental in the success of the Normandy invasion. The Mulberry Harbours facilitated the rapid offloading of cargo onto the beaches during the invasion. They overcame the logistical challenges posed by the lack of port facilities in the immediate aftermath of D-Day. These harbours consisted of floating roadways, piers, and breakwaters, enabling the continuous flow of troops, vehicles, and supplies, directly contributing to the success of ‘Operation Overlord.’ Operation Overload was the code name for the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Western Europe during the war, which began on D-Day. As we remember the courage and determination of those who fought on D-Day, we also take pride in the role that Pickfords played in this monumental chapter of history. Let us never forget the sacrifices made and the lives lost to secure freedom and peace ❤️ #hashtags #Pickfords #movinghouse #removals #movinghome #removalscompany #lifestyle #homemoving #internationalmoving #officemoving #unitedkingdom #DDayAnniversary #80thAnniversaryDDay #DDay80 #DDayAnniversary #RememberingDDay #AlliedForces #NeverForget

On D-Day 1943, technology led the way to victory. Higgins Boats changed the way war was fought. Previously, navies were forced to attack ports, which were usually heavily defended. With the advent of Higgins Boats, armies could unload across open beaches, providing more options in choosing attack points and stretching defending armies thin. This innovation not only offered strategic flexibility but also played a crucial role in many successful amphibious assaults during WWII, including the famous D-Day landings. The impact of Higgins Boats on military tactics is a testament to how technology can reshape the battlefield. Elevate your space from the top down! Here’s how to add an extra layer of style overhead: - Coffered Ceiling: With its chic grid pattern, it adds a touch of sophistication to any room. - Beamed Ceilings: Stretch the space visually and add a rustic or modern edge, depending on the style. Each of these ceiling styles not only adds character and charm but can also enhance the value of your home. #amberwalshrealtor #lowcountry #lowcountryliving #summerville #charleston #charlestonrealestate #buyersagent #sellersagent #homesweethome #forsale #military #realestateagent #property #newhome #dreamhome #lovewhatyoudo #realtorlife #luxuryrealestate #southcarolina #househunting #realty #homesforsale #lovewhereyoulive #military #realestateagent #property #newhome #dreamhome #lovewhatyoudo #realtorlife #luxuryrealestate #southcarolina #charleston #househunting #realty #homesforsale #lovewhereyoulive

Israel is committing genocide and our government is helping them do it. In the past 5 months, Israel has killed OVER 13,000 CHILDREN, has orphaned over 30,000 more children, & has made around 1 MILLION CHILDREN homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking aid to these children, killing them with starvation, dehydration, & disease, in addition to U.S. supplied bombs and ammunition. I also cry for the 36 innocent Israeli children killed on October 7th, but this horrible conflict did NOT start on that day. The proof is the nearly 2300 Palestinian children Israeli soldiers and settlers killed between the year 2000 and October 2023, including 43 children during the 9 months just before October 7th (all names & details documented on BTselem.org). Israel has also imposed a brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid on Palestinians, as well as a brutal blockade of Gaza since 2005. Both are illegal under international law, immoral, and ongoing acts of war. PLEASE WRITE & CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES & the White House to demand they stop helping Israel kill & starve children, commit war crimes, & maintain its brutal & racist apartheid, with our tax dollars. What would you do if someone stole your house and livelihood, killed some of your family, and left the rest of you with nothing to live in the squalor of a refugee camp, where your children were still not safe from Israeli bombs, bullets, and boots? Because that is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, and over 250,000 since then, and more every year. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes, farms, or shops where Israeli cities and towns now stand, which Israel literally stole from them. Many still even have the keys to their homes, and some homes still stand with Jewish immigrants living in them today. Palestinians have been trying to protest peacefully for decades, but when they do, Israeli soldiers shoot them in the knees, kill them, or at least imprison and beat them. If you don't believe it, please google this 2020 Haaretz article titled: '42 Knees in One Day': Israeli Snipers Open Up About Shooting Gaza Protesters. It describes how IDF snipers would shoot many peaceful protesters in the kneecaps and ankles to cripple them, while shooting and killing many others, including journalists and medics. And if you still believe the lie that Israel has offered Palestinians many generous peace deals that they keep rejecting, please read and share this article: https://lnkd.in/g2_EV6dV Finally, please watch and share this report on how The NY Times article on Oct 7th rapes has fallen apart, joining the disproven 40 beheaded babies lie in the long list of Israeli lied used to justify its ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza: https://lnkd.in/g7eRMNr4
Is the day coming when people in uniform refuse to oppress, kill and die serving the interests of the ultra rich? There can be no wars of profit or imperialist genocides without soldiers willing to fight illegal and immoral forever wars that serve no purpose beyond further enriching the already obscenely wealthy war profiteers of our world. Paws of War recently hosted a reunion event for three soldiers who, for the first time since their deployment, were reunited with the dogs they cared for and rescued while serving overseas in Eastern Europe. The three soldiers traveled to Nesconset, NY from Colorado and Rhode Island to officially adopt these beloved animal friends. Paws of War is also raising awareness about the cost of Paws of War’s mission and effort to return 18 more dogs from the same overseas region. As part of its War-Torn Pups and Cats program, Paws of War recently rescued Ace, Shadow, Runtie and Racha from a military base in Eastern Europe, where they then safely travelled to the organization’s HQ in Nesconset. The four pups were struggling to survive without food and water before they were rescued by the three soldiers. Paws of War is currently on a mission to bring 18 more dogs home safely to the U.S. These four dogs are just a few of the more than 60 rescues of dogs and cats that Paws of War currently has underway around the world. These rescue missions cost thousands of dollars per animal. All expenses are covered by Paws of War. https://lnkd.in/eXZDCGUc #Veterans #ptsdawareness #ptsdrecovery #ptsd #veterans #servicedog #dog #warrior

Successful logistic outcomes matter, take them for granted at your peril…
27 January 1776 – Henry Knox’s “noble train of artillery” arrived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on 25 January, although Henry Knox personally reported the arrival to General Washington two days later, on the 27th. The Knox Expedition, was an expedition led by a 25 year old Continental Army Colonel and former Boston bookseller, Henry Knox, to transport heavy weaponry that had been captured at Fort Ticonderoga to the Continental Army camps outside Boston, Massachusetts during the winter of 1775–1776. Knox went to Ticonderoga - which had been captured by Ethan Allen and his, "Green Mountain Boys" that May - in November 1775, and, over the course of 3 winter months, moved 60 tons of cannons and other armaments by boat, horse and ox-drawn sledges, and manpower, along poor-quality roads, across two semi-frozen rivers, and through the forests and swamps of the lightly inhabited Berkshires to the Boston area. Historian Victor Brooks has called Knox’s exploit “one of the most stupendous feats of logistics” of the entire American War of Independence. The route by which Knox moved the weaponry is now known as the Henry Knox Trail, and the states of New York and Massachusetts have erected markers along the route. The cannon where placed at Lechmere's Point, Cobble Hill in Cambridge and Lamb's Dam in Roxbury and preperations were made to fortify Dorchester Heights, from where they could threaten both the city and the British fleet in Boston Harbor. The canon were instrumental in the British decision to abandon Boston in March of that year.
