The time of 'stakeholders don't care about the details' has long passed. A European Commission study from 2020 found that 53.3% of the environmental claims they examined were vague, misleading, or unfounded, and 40% were completely unsubstantiated. Consumer trust in environmental claims is extremely low. #getspecific #sustainabilityclaims #sustainabilitycommunications

In the realm of #sustainability, our minds often gravitate towards the #environmental aspect—reducing carbon footprints, conserving water, and protecting biodiversity. While these efforts are crucial, there's another facet of sustainability that demands our attention and understanding: social sustainability. #Socialsustainability focuses on creating systems that promote well-being, equity, and #community resilience. It encompasses a broad range of issues including human rights, labor rights, and #socialjustice. It's about ensuring that growth and development do not come at the expense of marginalized communities but instead support a more inclusive and equitable society. One powerful example of social sustainability in action is the promotion of #genderequality in the economy, which is our main concern in Mulheres à Obra. When we strive for gender equality, we're not just advocating for fairness and justice; we're unlocking a wealth of untapped potential. As we navigate the complexities of the 21st century, it's clear that our approach to sustainability must be holistic, integrating environmental, economic, and social dimensions. By championing social sustainability and initiatives like gender equality in the economy, we're not just building a more equitable world for today; we're laying the groundwork for a more sustainable, resilient future for generations to come.

Today, on March 8th, International Women's Day, I want to share European Institute for Gender Equality Index 2023 that rates the EU and the Member States on a scale from 1 to 100. A score of 100 would mean that a country had achieved full #equality between women and men. You know what? This year we have not scored 100, so no, we are not there. 😒 Women lag behind men, in terms of equality, in the EU, perhaps the safest and richest region on earth. Sure you can imagine the situation in other places. The good news is that the #europeanunion (EU) has exceeded 70 points for the first time, showing an increase of 1.6 points since 2022. You can check out a particular chapter of this Index, the #genderequality Equality and the #europeangreendeal. 👇👇👇👇 🧐 According to the report: Women have a bit more personal responsibility to lower #climatechange (62%) than men (61%). We score better in avoiding animal products and plastic single-used, and also in choosing environmentally friendly options in general. I work in EIT InnoEnergy with a group of women who fight climate change every day: Andreia dos Santos Fernandes, Maria Sabbagh, Daniela Martinez De Bonis, Sara Irureta Vela, Pénélope Nabet, Diana Vitorino, Ainhoa Lombide Endemaño, Sahara Alshawaf, Ana Ferreira, Montse Gelonch. GOOD JOB! 🎉 🎉 📢 Call to action for the #energysector: To foster women’s involvement in #leadership positions and address the specific difficulties that women encounter in #energy access and #sustainability efforts.

Women are essential for a sustainable future—they bring unique insights and leadership to the table. Yet, they face higher climate risks (With 80% of climate change displacements affecting women and their households facing disproportionate heat-stress impacts) yet they are often sidelined in sectors crucial to the green transition. Bridging this gap not only furthers equality but also enriches the journey to Net Zero with diverse perspectives that strengthen community resilience and drive innovation. It's time to ensure gender equity in the sustainability journey. https://lnkd.in/dWFyH94v #IWD2024 #InvestInWomen #GenderEquality #Sustainability

End of January usually brings the reality check for our New Year's resolutions and sometimes forces us to reevaluate...and it is not any different with our sustainability related goals - in private or professional life. 🧐Are they tangible enough? Do they cover my main focus areas, which make me happy and make impact? There can be many questions! 📕If you need a bit more down-to-Earth, structured approach to your sustainability actions planning, I can not recommend anything more than a book The Future We Choose from Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac. 👉This book clusters the necessary sustainability actions into 10 main areas: ✅Let go of the old world ✅Face your grief but hold a vision of the future ✅Defend the truth ✅See yourself as a citizen-not as a consumer ✅Move beyond fossil fuels ✅Reforest the Earth ✅Invest in a clean economy ✅Use technology responsibly ✅Build gender equality ✅Engage in politics I hope you get inspired by that! And let's see what 2024 will bring! 💪 🙏Big thanks also to Henkel for setting up a library at the workplace, where you can borrow these great books! #sustainability #sustainabilityleadership #bookrecommendation #resolutions #actions #henkelaner
