The incredible news from Einstein Medical School in the Bronx from Dr. Ruth Gottesman's historic $1 billion gift marks a monumental moment in medical education and research. https://lnkd.in/eqHFufZs Reflecting on the journey, it's awe-inspiring to think that nearly 75 years ago, there was only 1 doctor in New York dedicated to studying muscle disease. Today, thanks to organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association building the field of neuromuscular medicine with our partners and community, and visionary philanthropists like Dr. Gottesman, we're witnessing a transformative shift.   This significant contribution not only fuels groundbreaking research but also opens doors for aspiring medical minds, breaking down barriers to education and opportunity. With access to resources like MDA Care Centers, over 150 strong in our network, we're empowering individuals and families living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases to lead longer, more independent lives.   Together, we're rewriting the narrative of possibility and progress in healthcare. With its vote on February 13, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents authorized The University of Georgia to establish a new independent School of Medicine in Athens. The initiation of a school of medicine at Georgia’s flagship university comes at a time when the state faces a significant shortage of medical professionals. In recent years, Georgia’s population has surged to approximately 11 million residents, straining existing medical infrastructure and resulting in longer wait times for appointments and reduced access to care. Georgia—the nation’s eighth largest state—is forecasted to experience further population growth in the coming years, while nearly one-third of the state’s physicians are nearing retirement. medicine.uga.edu/

Meet LevelUP Fellow, Brad Swiger, Ph.D.!  Dr. Swiger's LevelUP project is entitled: INFUSION MODEL OF CRITICAL THINKING: The Impact of Increasing Student Ability in Data Analysis on Medical School Admission Application to medical school is a highly competitive process.  The applicant must meet several minimum criteria but, more often than not, the applicant must exceed the minimum criteria to be considered by the admissions committee.  A competitive score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a major hurdle for most students.  According to a recent report by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the current average MCAT score is a 501.3 for all test-takers, yet 511.7 was the average score of matriculants for 2022-2023.   The purpose of this project will be to examine the relationship between explicit instruction of critical analysis in a Graduate Seminar course and MCAT scores, with an ultimate goal of tracking medical school acceptance rates. Given the scientific literacy required to do well on the MCAT, an increased focus on critical analysis and reading comprehension could help students achieve better scores.   

As Students' Association for Medical Education and Research term is approaching an end.I can't express my deepest gratitude for serving this association as the 5th-term president for 2023/24.During these hard times, we -as the 5th term EB- managed to do a lot of astounding things.The most important of them all is the maintenance of the association in times when all associations ceased to exist.
