As an Agent I have had a solid career selling products and services based mostly on relationships, I am gravely concerned about the current state of our industry. I am a relationship salesperson, that extends to and relies heavily on Carrier relationships. I have noticed an alarming trend of Carriers walking in and leveling nearly if not all of their sales teams only to then go back and hire a younger sales associate @ a lower rate and seemingly zero training or even worse as a recent example 500 seats and below going offshore to call centers. I 100% cannot and do not speak for most Agents but I personally would rather have a relationship with a known Carrier sales rep than a SPIFF. As Agents we need to be asking the hard questions, what is causing this alarming trend and what can we do to change the culture? Bad Carrier customer service is becoming an epidemic and pretending like it doesn’t affect us is not the solution.

* * Short story here: For anyone in automotive management that won’t take a chance on an applicant with no previous auto experience I want to share a story of a new hire on my team, Omar. 19 years old he decides he wants to sell cars. Goes to a dealership across the street from us and applies for his first sales position and they say “sorry we can’t start you in sales with no experience. I’ll hire you as a porter and you can eventually get a shot.” 1 month passes. “Can I sell cars?” “No, you need more time as a porter.” 2nd month passes. “Can I sell cars?” “No, you need more experience.” “Ok I quit.” Omar comes across the street, walks into the sales office and tells us his story. We take a shot and hire him as a salesman. Today he’s celebrating closing out February as our top salesman with only 4 months of experience in the business. Sometimes we need to put aside our bias and take a shot on young, hungry, and determined individuals. Hustle, hardwork, and self confidence is hard to find nowadays. I hope if you read this you take a shot on someone in the future who maybe doesn’t fit the mold of what you are told to look for. Go find your Omar!

Company car or Car allowance? Many of the sales roles we recruit require the sales professional to have a vehicle. From what I can see there is no benefit to the employer to offer a company car over a car allowance and the downside is your stuck with a car when they move on. Does anyone see any benefit to SMEs using company cars over the allowance?

2 tech exits | Helped 200 companies increase sales | Lumina Sales coach | Salesclass instructor | Founder UAE-Israel Business Council
Be open and hire salespeople without experience. I have successfully recruited: A fireman A magician UK national bodybuilding champion, musicians, ex sports pros Actors Teachers Rabbis Recruiters and realtors Waitresses A social worker A tour guide All of them had experience very suitable for sales. If you run into a burning house every day you aren't scared to make a cold call. If you can perform magic you can make people believe in your product. If you have daily practiced your sport or craft for many years you have the resilience and discipline to succeed in sales. If you are an actor you have the ability to improvise and think on your feet in a demo. If you are a teacher you have the power to influence and move people. If you are a rabbi or spiritual leader you can build a network and communicate at a high level. If you are recruiting or in real estate you are selling to two parties with different interests in every transaction. If you are a waiter you are up-selling and cross-selling with your product knowledge. If you a social worker you have listening skills, empathy and are a problem solver. If you are a tour guide you are a story teller with strong presentation skills. Have you moved into sales from a different industry? #simonsays #pgtips #sales #tech #jobs #recruitment #hiring

Product sales VS Service sales My daughter started working part time since the last week of June to earn extra money... At first she was working in a retail outlet that sells massage apparatus with price range between RM200+ to RM1K. While working, her challenges were 1. lack of stock so when people drop by, interested in the product there wasn't any unit available for sale. 2. customer has issue with item purchased and request for after sales service but there wasn't any. There was no solutions available for customer so she end up having to listen to grouses and dissatisfaction. 3. lack of comfortable chair for sales person to sit. No doubt when entertaining customer, she is required to stand but when there is no customers she sits in a stool which caused backache in the long run. She lasted only a month and cited boredom as some days no one even stop at the shop. Her current job is in an indoor games where customers are required to place their booking online before coming in. These customers are briefed before starting the game and gets to go through within the time frame. The challenge that she face in this role is customers sometimes do not heed instructions given by the staff. Obviously there are things that should not be touched yet some gatal tangan would kacau and then cause destruction to the equipments making it difficult for the staff to fix. Well she signed on for 6 months so we'll see how long she will last in this role. I have never worked in retail before so I am not sure if this is common. So here I am sharing her adventure. What's yours? #katasue #working #challenge
