🌟 Excited to share the Issue Cover of Bioengineering, Volume 10 Issue 10: Potential of Porous Substrate Bioreactors for Removal of Pollutants from Wastewater Using Microalgae. 🥼 This paper is authored by Dora Allegra Carbone and Michael Melkonian. 💡 Porous substrate bioreactors (PSBRs) are a new technology to grow microalgae immobilized in a dense culture and solve some problems linked to suspended cultivation. The aim of this short review is to introduce the PSBR technology, summarize the results obtained in removing some pollutants from wastewater, provide an assessment of the potential of PSBRs for wastewater treatment, and the subsequent use of the algal biomass for other purposes. Happy to share that I had the opportunity to participate in 7th Doctoral Colloquium BIOENERGY AND BIOBASED PRODUCTS LEIPZIG 2024! I presented my research work on “Fuel composition and feedstock properties of poplar from second rotation plantation” It was an excellent platform, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to address the key challenges in the field of bioenergy. Engaging discussions focused on the use of sustainable resources, exploring how they can be effectively utilized for energy conversion and the production of bio-based products. 🌿 Nanoparticles and Plants: A Collaborative Journey 🌿 My contributions in the following Review Article "Agri-Nanotechnology and Tree Nanobionics: Augmentation in Crop Yield, Biosafety, and Biomass Accumulation."🌱✨ focuses on, Nanomaterials (NMs) are the leading edge 🌟 as an amazing class of materials that consist of at least one dimension in the range of 1–100 nm. NMs can be made with exceptional magnetic 🧲, electrical ⚡, and catalytic ⚙️ properties, different from their bulk counterparts. We summarized unique features of NMs, their synthesis 🧪, and advances in agri-nanotechnology 🌱 and cutting-edge nanobionics 🧬. The review describes advances in NMs, including their applications, dosimetry to ensure biosafety 🛡️, remote sensing of agro-forestry fields 🌾, nanofertilizers 🌿, and nanopesticides 🐜, and avoiding post-harvest losses 🚜, gene delivery 🚀, and nanobionics. Tree nanobionics has enabled the synthesis and delivery of nanosensors, which enhance the rate of photosynthesis ☀️, detection of pathogens 🦠, and poisonous residues to ensure biosafety and biomass accumulation 🌳. Source: Applied and environmental microbiology Novel cyanobacteria UTEX 3221 and UTEX 3222, isolated from marine volcanic seeps, exhibit rapid growth and high-density biomass, with UTEX 3222 doubling in 2.35 hours and reaching >31 g/L. Its quick sinking trait suggests efficient biomass harvesting, making it suitable for carbon dioxide removal and bioproduction. This study highlights the potential of CO₂-rich environments for discovering unique cyanobacteria with beneficial characteristics.
