Career Technical Education programs equip students with valuable, high-demand skills and create direct links to the workplace through experiences like mentoring, career days, and job shadowing. One of the cornerstones of #CTE is its bridge between learners and employers. #CTE101

There is a critical need for this work to prepare students for the future workforce. It’s the reason states are beginning to require CTE courses and work-based learning experiences for graduation. We need to do this better. We really need a system. Every school, business/industry… approaches this differently & typically programmatically - providing a sea of independent boats paddling in all different directions. We need to get behind the work of Career Awareness & Preparation comprehensively so students know what careers are available - and what further education & training is required… So we are collaborating and connecting - working together and paddling in the same direction. The great - and somewhat unsurprising news is that there is a growing body of research that shows this work strengthens mental health. It’s about the importance and strength of mentoring. Today, I attended BPP's first session called "Building Careers BPP." This event highlighted internal mobility opportunities and provided a platform for engaging with the panel through questions and discussions. Reflecting on the session, I took away several valuable lessons: 1) The significance of networking 2) Embracing setbacks as learning experiences: It's perfectly fine to pursue roles that we don't get, its all part of the learning curve and can open other doors down the line. 3) Grab opportunities that come your way: In our careers, opportunities may arise unexpectedly. It's important to be brave and take them with both hands. 4) Being proactive in driving change: If you see areas for improvement, take initiative and advocate for positive change. I would like to thank the panel for sharing their impressive careers within BPP; Professor David Wooff, Natalie Procter and Laura Beswick, as well as Charlotte Wanendeya for hosting. Thank you to Ruth Mullin and Amal Elmi Ibrahim for organising.
