Some recent news and interesting tidbits for a Friday - weekend reading: 🚲Barcelona has marked a significant achievement in sustainable urban mobility, with a record 80.1% of journeys within the city in 2023 being made through eco-friendly modes of transport. This includes walking, cycling, using personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), and public transportation, showcasing a significant shift away from reliance on private vehicles. https://lnkd.in/e7QYuN45. ☀️A study from JRC highlights the enormous potential of deploying photovoltaic (PV) technology on rooftops, over water bodies and alongside roads and railways (collectively referred to as R3) across the EU. This approach could exceed a total installed capacity of 1 TWp without environmental compromise. With a technical capacity of 1,120 GWp and an estimated annual production of 1,208 TWh, such deployment could meet 48% of the EU's electricity needs as of 2022, surpassing the ambitious 2030 targets set in the EU Solar Strategy. https://lnkd.in/eGxVPzyH 🖥️In a significant step towards digital inclusivity, Sunderland launches the Community Digital Health Hubs initiative, aiming to bridge digital divides by providing comprehensive access and support across 22 locations. Funded by the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this collaboration involves Sunderland City Council, Boldyn Networks, the British Esports Federation, and 22 community partners, forming a crucial part of the larger "Links for Life" campaign. The initiative is designed to ensure that every resident, regardless of their digital proficiency, can enhance their digital skills and confidence, powered by Sunderland's extensive public Wi-Fi network and a smart city partnership. https://lnkd.in/e7G77UKM Which pieces of news have you inspired for the weekend? #smartcities #smartcity #urbanmobility #energyefficiency #digitalinclusion
