We see a lot of drone-on-drone warfare with fixed wing UAVs. Someone should design a small net or mesh that can be deployed from a UAV when it detects another close to it to try to tangle the attacking drones props. Some sort of proxy or other type of detonator.

At a one-day conference in Berlin, the UAV DACH Executive Board discussed the tasks that lie ahead this year and looked at plans for 2025. The meeting at the premises of UAV DACH member Pix4D focused on preparations for the next member meeting, which will also take place in Berlin at the beginning of December.   Alongside a review of the work of the past few months, important decisions for the coming year are to be taken there. Two major events are already scheduled for February, the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM and XPONENTIAL Europe. Of course, the Executive Board and the association will also continue to focus on efforts to create an enabling environment for the #drone economy in Europe. In particular, the removal of specific obstacles to commercial #UAS operations and increased European networking within the industry will therefore continue to be key elements of the work of the Unmanned Aviation Association in the coming year.

Before the industry struggles for market shares there needs to be a lively market to struggle for. That's why jointly shaping the framework for a successfull drone economy in Europe is key - and #EDF25 is an important place for that. Due to the increasing popularity of unmanned aircraft systems (#UAS), the detection and #defense of non-cooperative #drones is becoming a major challenge.   From protecting civil aviation to critical infrastructure and public events, effective strategies are essential to ensure safety in modern #airspace.   To support politicians in their work on a national strategy to detect and defend uncooperative UAS and to clarify industry positions and demands, a joint working group of UAV DACH and the German Aerospace Industries Association (#BDLI) has been established.   The participation of UAV DACH is coordinated by Olaf Grimme - Head of the Application Group Drone Detection & Countermeasures   We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with the BDLI and the development of a forward-looking strategy paper by fall 2024.   Photo credit: The symbol image is an illustration from the media pool of UAV DACH member Dedrone, one of the world's leading specialists in UAS detection and countermeasures. VLOS: How Drone Pilots Determine Maximum Flight Distances One of the most blurred rules in drone operations is the legal requisite to operate an unmanned aircraft (‘UA’) while maintaining constant visual line of sight (‘VLOS’) of the aircraft while in flight. Whether or not the FAA went about creating a confusing drone mandate is perhaps an argument for another day. For now, we set our sights upon a most troublesome common sense UAS safety concern by taking an in-focused look at how an unmanned aircraft pilot goes about determining their maximum visual line of sight distance for a given in-flight aerial drone mission and some of the factors that affect a UA pilot’s ability to maintain constant visual observation during in-flight operations. UTM acts like an automated reservation system for different flight routes. If a drone plots a route that conflicts with an existing drone's reservation, UTM tells it to find a new route.
