Sometimes good enough won’t do. My friend Yngve is an Opera Star. He tours the world’s biggest stages, earning raving reviews. The key word here is Star. Nobody wants to pay 586 dollar to see a performance featuring your pretty average opera dude. Which means Yngve can’t afford to listen to most leadership advice. Because in his world Good really is the enemy of Great. Good opera singers don’t go on tour. Only the best do. Why do some people become the best at what they do? There’s talent, for sure. But talent will only get you so far. The people I know who are the best in their field have something else as well. They have a deep passion for what they do. And maybe most importantly, they have a relentless drive to become better. On our trip to New York, Yngve went to lessons with his song instructor every day. I went to the Museum of Ice Cream.
