Drawing on the foundational idea that the Opera House was built to serve the community, our ambition is to be Everyone’s House. ⭐ First Nations voices and culture are central to shaping the Opera House’s future and achieving this ambition. We have established a new senior leadership role to drive meaningful change and advocate for and centre First Nations people in everything we do. Professor Theater Management/ Theater Researcher at University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt/Main
That's true, many North American Performing Arts organizations and companies are years ahead of most of the European organizations in reflecting the aspects Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). They address racial injustice, gender disparity, and ableism, as well as discrimination and power abuse more serious and with more financial power. We should take this as an example in order to quickly catch up on these aspects and not always be years behind, as with #metoo a.o.
Opera America are doing brilliant work reflecting on Racial Justice within the industry both within the US and further afield. They will be hosting another two day forum this coming March. Really looking forward to being part of it and joining one of my all time favourites (Quo Johnson) in conversation on March 7th at 1:15pm.

In business, as in opera, a robust foundation is essential for success. Napoleon Hill captured it perfectly: 'The starting point of all achievement is desire.' As we start the week, let's align our desires with our goals and watch as doors open. #Motivation #SuccessMindset

Conductor helping musicians feel valued, seen, and fulfilled | Blogs at Conductor as CEO | Content that inspires us to think
Fear takes up too much real estate in our mind as musicians when we are afraid of retribution, punishment, and shame - from playing a wrong note, saying the wrong thing, making the wrong decision. Leaders can work hard to give musicians the security that nothing bad is about to happen and minimize the effects of fear in our orchestras and opera companies. #fear #leadership #leader #conductor #musicians #orchestra #opera #conudctorasceo

Some Friday thoughts: Embracing authenticity is something often talked about out, but not always put into practice, despite our best efforts. As opera singers, we want to impress the crowd, even when what we think people want goes against what is most natural to express our vocal abilities, especially in the world of opera where passion and genuine expression shine the brightest. Remember to focus on the genuine aspects of your voice rather than getting caught up in a style that doesn't suit you. Your unique voice has its own story to tell, and it deserves to be heard authentically. Don't try to fit into a mold; instead, let your true voice resonate with sincerity and emotion. #operasinger #authenticity #embracethevoice #queenofopera

Sometimes good enough won’t do. My friend Yngve is an Opera Star. He tours the world’s biggest stages, earning raving reviews. The key word here is Star. Nobody wants to pay 586 dollar to see a performance featuring your pretty average opera dude. Which means Yngve can’t afford to listen to most leadership advice. Because in his world Good really is the enemy of Great. Good opera singers don’t go on tour. Only the best do. Why do some people become the best at what they do? There’s talent, for sure. But talent will only get you so far. The people I know who are the best in their field have something else as well. They have a deep passion for what they do. And maybe most importantly, they have a relentless drive to become better. On our trip to New York, Yngve went to lessons with his song instructor every day. I went to the Museum of Ice Cream. Nuff said. So how do we look after our best performers at work? Do we focus on their strengths? Do we help them raise the bar? Do we really nurture talent? These are questions we reflected on over lunch at Hamburger America in SoHo. George Motz wanted to create America’s best hamburger. And uncompromising as we are, we just had to find out if he succeeded. What do you think? Why do some people become the best at what they do? And how do we make sure they get to realise their full potential in our teams? #potential #leadership #opera #nyc #hamburgeramerica
