NPS’ annual Warfare Innovation Continuum (WIC) Workshop took place Sept. 18-21 in Monterey with a focus on “Integrated Naval Campaigning.” Check out the below article for more on the participants, the potential outcomes, and how the WIC Workshop kicks off the NPS innovation process.   “With over 100 individuals attending from warfare labs, industry, warfare development centers, fleet staffs, the Pentagon, and our own faculty and students, we obtain a diverse set of technical, engineering, and operational talent to generate concepts for employing emerging and existing technologies in operational environments,” said retired U.S. Navy Capt. 5G/FutureG research is gaining momentum at NPS. It’s exciting to be a plank holder for the movement.

The 2023 National Defense Science and Technology Strategy identified future-generation wireless technologies as a crucial “seed area of emerging opportunity” for the DOD.   The Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering’s FutureG Office, tasked with developing innovative solutions in 5G and FutureG cellular network systems and technologies that enhance military wireless communication, recently joined forces with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) to advance their efforts, committing just under $2 million over five years to improve workforce development and education in future-generation wireless, in addition to research in expeditionary applications of 5G open networks and beyond.   “FutureG pursued this partnership because NPS understands the mission context in which 5G/FutureG technology will come to bear,” said FutureG Office Director, Dr. Tom Rondeau. “This extends beyond the active-duty students to the faculty and staff that have become highly skilled in the application of their expertise to dynamic warfighter challenges.    “The expertise they gain will help us understand how to buy, deploy, and manage advanced wireless networks like 5G and 6G,” he continued. “Coupled with their previous experiences in the fleet, this will help us innovate and deploy technologies that support future operations and the department’s strategic vision.”   • Read the full story on this new partnership: https://lnkd.in/gXERi_vy   • Learn more about NPS’ Center for Cyber Warfare: https://lnkd.in/gnY_JReT US Navy | United States Marine Corps | Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering | Office of Naval Research #wirelesstechnology #5G #futureG #WorkforceDevelopment #innovations

On May 9, Christopher Collins, the United States Department of Defense executive director for the Office of Developmental Test, Evaluation, and Assessment, chaired a technical panel at the 21st Annual Acquisition Research Symposium at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. The panel, “Advancements in Digital Engineering for Test and Evaluation,” included three presentations by researchers from Georgia Tech Research Institute and DOT&E, who provided the latest details on digital engineering’s advancements with testing and evaluation practices. Additionally, the Acquisition Research Symposia hosted senior defense acquisition officials, NPS faculty, and graduated students for discussions on research priorities and findings across the acquisition discipline. Digital engineering can help the DoD outpace America’s adversaries because it helps decisionmakers make quicker, more well-formed choices while also continuously adapting and improving military systems.
