Significant expansion for veterans health care started March 5th. Excerpt from Lexington VA Health Care System below - Starting March 5, 2024, more Veterans are eligible to enroll in VA Health Care under the PACT Act, section 103. This change added three new groups that are now eligible. They are: • Veterans who participated in a toxic exposure risk activity (TERA), as defined by law, while serving on active duty, active duty for training, or inactive duty training. • Veterans who were assigned to a duty station in (including airspace above) certain locations during specific periods of time: – On or after August 2, 1990, in the following countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, or the United Arab Emirates – On or after September 11, 2001, in the following countries: Afghanistan, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Uzbekistan, or any other country determined relevant by VA. (Note: VA has not determined any other country relevant at this time.) • Veterans who were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Resolute Support Mission. This force meets DOD medical requirements for deployment and partners with health care delivery. Ready Medical Force A healthy medical force ready to deploy is part of our health support network. Operational medical forces provide three of five health capabilities: Forward resuscitative care, en route care, and theater hospitalization. Strategic medical forces continue a cycle of medical readiness that supports health service definitive care and can include large-scale combat operations. This project felt like the culmination of my quarter century of work experience. It is massive in scale, yet built from simple, elegant modules in a modern way, paving the way for the future model of things. US military medics’ dry run of future conflict triage takes them from Germany to Romania and back During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, military medical teams could move the wounded quickly to military care in theater and on to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, the Defense Department’s largest hospital overseas. The most critically injured could be returned stateside in less than three days. But such speed and ease of transport from the battlefield to life-saving treatment are unlikely in the next conflict because of the presumption that casualty numbers will be higher, and airspace will be contested, the medical officials said. In Europe, Army medics and Air Force critical care air transport teams are preparing to do triage in a contested environment, with the expectation of more prolonged field care. https://lnkd.in/gE3fDXUF

Today the nations remembers and honors National POW/MIA Day. The Defense Department (DoD) remembers and honors those Americans who were Prisoners of War, those who served and never returned home. The DoD’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency continues the search for the missing, fulfilling the nation’s promise to leave no service member behind. History In the United States, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday in September. It honors those who were prisoners of war (POWs) and those who are still missing in action (MIA). It is most associated with those who were POWs during the Vietnam War. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29, the date in 1973 when the last US combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam. The POW/MIA Flag should fly below, and not be larger than, the United States flag. It is generally flown immediately below or adjacent to the United States flag as second in order of precedence
