Earlier this week I had the pleasure of welcoming the 2024 Interns to J.P.Morgan Glasgow. I understand that the first few days can be nerve wracking. So here are some of my tips to help you settle in. 1. Be curious: Ask questions and seek to learn. 2. Connect: Build relationships with your team. 3. Stay organised: Keep track of your tasks and deadlines. 4. Be patient: Give yourself time to adapt and grow. 5. Take notes: Document key information and insights. 6. Seek feedback: Regularly ask for and act on feedback. 7. Stay positive: Maintain a positive attitude and embrace challenges. 8. Be yourself: Authenticity goes a long way in building confidence. 9. Be proud: You’ve secured an internship at a global organisation. You deserve to be here. Celebrate your achievements - regardless of how small you think they might be. 10. Engage fully: Participate actively in meetings and discussions. Looking forward to seeing all you achieve!

When large firms and enterprises welcome undergraduate interns, it is not only that interns learn from the organization; but also the organization learn from interns. It is more to an exchange of knowledge and experience with an opportunity of getting exposed to different mindsets for both parties. It is important that organizations make sure to provide proper intern programs that allows undergraduates to learn about professional life, career paths, different working domains and subdomains; and to allow their existing human capital to learn from those interns who come with an international level of exposure to new academic scholar methods.
