Here are some key trends shaping the future of recycling: Advanced Sorting Technologies: AI and machine learning are revolutionizing recycling facilities. According to a report by the National Waste & Recycling Association, AI-driven systems can increase sorting accuracy by up to 50%, reducing contamination and improving the quality of recyclable materials. Chemical Recycling: This innovative process breaks down plastics into their chemical components, allowing for the recycling of materials that were previously non-recyclable. Experts from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation highlight that chemical recycling could potentially recycle 90% of plastic waste, drastically reducing landfill dependency. A puzzle for the packaging value chain –  The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) The European Union is taking a bold step towards a circular economy! As of January 1st, 2030, all packaging on the EU market must be recyclable. This means that packaging must be designed with recycling in mind and sorted into specific waste streams for effective recycling.   And it doesn’t stop there: By 2038, only packaging with the highest recyclability grades (A or B) will be allowed on the market. This is a game changer for the industry, driving innovation and pushing businesses to rethink how they design their packaging.
