Last week we brought our Talent Assessment and Selection training to the fantastic Recruitment and Equity HR leaders at City of Portland. Talence coach and search consultant Jennifer Greenberg, MBA, ACC led a session designed to pilot this customized training and facilitate discussion and alignment across different bureaus. What stood out about this group was the high level of care they have for the people and the processes, as well their dedication to increasing access to quality City of Portland job opportunities. They are also a lot of fun when you get them in a room all together! This training took place in the Portland Building under the watchful eye of our city's Portlandia statue- a truly fitting location as we partner to bring effective and human-centered hiring to benefit our community. Thank you all!

Late last year, I was thinking, first off, I am not one to make New Year resolutions frankly because I ALWAYS find an excuse to not accomplish them. I know a lot of people say 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗲, I was one of them, and that has helped me a lot through the years. However, walking into 2024 I needed something much bigger to push me to the next level. It wasn't New Year New Me, because I'm still me, but I wanted to grow and learn. So I used those words: 𝙂𝙍𝙊𝙒𝙏𝙃 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙉𝙄𝙉𝙂, to push me to the next level. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁?: 🎓 Enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University, and on track to graduate in March 2025 with my B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Industrial Organizational Psychology. 🏋♀️ Hired a personal trainer/nutritionist. I've never felt this complete and fulfilled in my career/education.

This month's ICMA - International City/County Management Association Public Management magazine includes Patrick Ibarra on the cover! Patrick helped City of Waco, TX in 2023 on a Human Resources Strategic Plan. He did a great job along with Missie Pustejovsky, SPHR, CBP to chart a course to make Waco the preferred employer in Central Texas. His article in the PM magazine is a good one and he uses one of my favorite quotes; "Change isn't the dangerous thing, stability is." If you are looking for an HR consultant or executive coach, hit up Patrick. It is worth your time. #publicadministration #citymanager #executivecoach

Last week, I had the privilege to attend the annual HR day from Vlerick Business School together with my colleague Stéphanie Callebaut. What an edition it was! I followed some very interesting keynotes and inspiring sessions about retention, Squiggly careers and how AI Will change HR. And I have to say: the catering was top notch as well 😋🍦 Some main takeaways: - An inspiring career isn’t equal to climbing the corporate ladder for a lot of people - When incorpating new technologies in a work place, we need to look for “influencers” to get everyone on the same track - Technology, leadership and learning opportunities/career development are the most important topics in retaining people Looking forward to put the attained knowledge to use at delaware BeLux

Retention with Accountability It can often feel like accountability and employee retention are at odds. In a challenging labor market, managers sometimes worry that instilling accountability will create greater employee turnover. In this session, we will discuss how accountability and retention can work together to create a strong employee culture. We will discuss a person-centered approach to employee accountability, outlining specific strategies for having challenging conversations with employees. Register for this luncheon today! June 25th, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Excited to kick off 2024 with the next class in my Masters of HR and Organizational Development program at the University of Louisville! This class focuses on program and organizational evaluation. My entry for this week's thought journal: "Formative evaluations focus on determining which aspects of the design work well or not, and why. Summative evaluations describe how well a design performs." "When the cook tastes the soup, that's formative; when the guests taste the soup, that's summative" (I love a good metaphor)
