5 Game-Changing Tips to Stand Out at a Career Fair Career fairs are GOLDMINES for networking and landing job opportunities—if you play it right. As someone actively applying to software engineering roles, I’ve used these strategies to secure 3 Tech Roles in the past, and I’m sharing them with you! Here’s how to make the most out of your next career fair: 1. Do Your Homework → Research the companies attending. → Know their mission, products, and recent news. → Be ready to ask specific questions that show you’ve done your research. Why? Companies remember candidates who stand out as informed and curious. 2. Perfect Your Pitch → Practice a quick 30-second intro → Mention your skills, goals, and why you’re excited about their company. First impressions matter. This is your chance to shine. 3. Dress for the Role You Want → Keep it professional but approachable. → A neat outfit makes you memorable (and shows you care). 4. Bring Your Resume and Portfolio → Print out several copies of your CV, tailored to the roles you’re targeting. → Bonus points: Have a QR code linking to your GitHub or portfolio. 5. Follow Up → After meeting a recruiter, connect with them on LinkedIn. → Send a personalised message. Career fairs aren’t just about showing up—they’re about showing out. These techniques helped me land multiple opportunities, and they’ll work for you too. 💡 What’s YOUR go-to strategy for standing out at a career fair?
