If you had told me 2 years ago that Legal and Industrial would be our 2 fastest growing industry sectors, no way would I have believed you. But here we are. Technology companies are still our single biggest industry segment, but our non-tech clients (in betting terms, “the field”) collectively surpassed the pure-play SaaS firms. Law firms, manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering, but also real estate, construction, CPG, insurance, finance, cannabis, digital agencies, etc. It’s the combo of VC's funding cooling off (and less tech companies scaling up) with legal and industrial being traditionally under-served markets. And this is not at all slight against tech. But my biggest takeaway from the 2023 downturn – regardless of what type of business you run or type of job you work – is don’t fall for shiny object syndrome. Most businesses just want a stable client base. Most people just want a stable job. There’s plenty of those out there. But they may not be in the first places you look.
