An inspiring day yesterday at the careers expo! As much for myself as for the youth and future of tomorrow. I recently answered a call for volunteers to help out being a 'role model' to inspire the future generations. Wanting to give back more to the local community, it seemed a worthy cause talking to youth to help understand what career options are out there for them. I have spoken about my career before but this was a different approach. It started with a game of literally 20 questions for students to try guess my career! Completing the reveal, I shared what I do in my profession. You forget the power of a personal story! By sharing the journey I have been on boundaries were broken which enabled more thought provoking discussions to be had! I was blown away around the openness of the discussions and the willingness of the students to learn about what opportunities there are for them in our market. It was a long day, but I looked forwarded to each new group of students coming in. Thanks to the team at inspiring the future for all your hard work setting this up, and the other role models there also! It was an amazing day and I really enjoyed learning and hearing about the other role model's career also. Special thanks to Anna Kostiuk-Warren for putting the requests out internally and pro-actively getting out there and making this happen. Inspiring the future needs people from different walks of life to share their stories and I encourage anyone, in any job to sign-up to be a role model and give back. Been an early start today to get through some work to make the time, but 100% worth it and make time for the second day today. This is the third week of the Epoch Mentorship Programme Cohort 2.0 Epoch Africa and we are now in the second phase alternatively referred to as the 'Career Planning' phase. During the last week, I learnt about Goals and Goal Setting. Specifically 'SMART Goals'. The lesson did not just end there, we also looked into some of the obstacles that one could encounter achieving his or her goals like time management and lack of resources for examples and then their possible solutions. At the end, I was able to see the reasons why I should have a career plan well outlined and how to keep to it strictly.

Events Apprenticeships - breaking down barriers to entry, lets talk about how we can ALL do this as an industry 👇
Does the industry have a class issue? How do we ensure that people from all backgrounds have equal access to the sector? We don't talk very much about class as #eventprofs, but it's one of the driving forces behind the newly-minted Elevate NewGen, which aims to nurture underrepresented talent and encourage 18-25 year-olds from lower-socioeconomic backgrounds to consider a career in events. I had a fascinating chat with founders Peter Kerwood and Evie Manuel about their aims for the programme, we talked about: 👩🏫 Educating young people about the events industry 🏗 How to create support structures for those who don't have them 🚧 Why breaking down barriers ultimately benefits the whole industry Check it out 👇 https://lnkd.in/enV6WK2q
