Analysis of Somatization Disorder.docx Above is an Analysis of Somatization Disorder I have written a while ago for one of my previous classes. I hope this helps someone out there who is battling with anxiety and its symptoms. One of the most underdiagnosed mental health conditions is Somatization Disorder. Somatization disorder, now more commonly referred to as Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD), can be underdiagnosed for several reasons: Stigma and Misunderstanding: There's often a stigma surrounding mental health conditions that manifest through physical symptoms. This can lead to both patients and healthcare providers being reluctant to recognize or address the psychological components of physical complaints. Lack of Awareness: Many healthcare providers may not be familiar with the specific criteria for diagnosing SSD. This can result in physical symptoms being attributed solely to organic causes, without considering a psychological basis. Overlap with Other Conditions: SSD shares symptoms with various medical and psychiatric conditions, which can complicate diagnosis. For instance, symptoms like pain or fatigue are common in many other disorders, making it challenging to distinguish SSD from other medical or psychiatric issues. Vague Symptoms: The symptoms of SSD can be vague or nonspecific, such as general pain or fatigue. This can make it difficult for healthcare providers to pinpoint a clear diagnosis, leading to a focus on treating symptoms rather than addressing the underlying disorder. Variability in Presentation: SSD can present in various ways, and patients may not always express their distress in a way that fits neatly into diagnostic criteria. This variability can lead to difficulties in diagnosis. Healthcare System Challenges: In busy or fragmented healthcare systems, there's often a focus on addressing immediate, acute symptoms rather than exploring the broader context of a patient's health, which can lead to missed diagnoses of SSD. Patient Behavior: Patients with SSD might experience significant distress but not always communicate the psychological nature of their suffering effectively. This can lead to a focus on physical symptoms without considering psychological factors. Diagnostic Criteria Changes: The criteria for diagnosing SSD have evolved, and some providers may not be up-to-date with the latest diagnostic guidelines, leading to underdiagnosis. Improving awareness among both patients and healthcare providers and fostering a more integrated approach to treatment that considers both physical and psychological aspects can help address these challenges and improve diagnosis rates for SSD. #MentalHealth #Awareness #Underdiagnosed #SomatizationDisorder #SSD #Anxiety #Healthcare

Primitive reflexes are present in most pts with chronic MSK pain. They influence movement and motor function and can be the cause of -altered movement patterns -poor / slow motor skill learning -altered motor behavior Primitive reflex inhibition techniques can inhibit the reflex and help movement, motor control, and aspects of cognitive function. However, it is important to have an understanding of possible causation. Associations provide initial insights into possible aspects of causation. There are many. One time incident (e.g., atypical birth history, stroke) Ongoing (e.g., progressive neurological disorder, systemic disease - under control or not) Mental health disorder (e.g., controlled or uncontrolled)

Does depression, anxiety, brain fog & cognitive decline start in the brain or could it be that mental health disorders are another form of metabolic disorder? 95% of serotonin is produced in the gastrointenstinal tract and there are now multiple studies showing that eating a diet high ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and foods high in sugar is tied with impaired brain function, cognitive decline & the worsening of mood disorders such as depression. The good news is that there's more and more evidence that shows how a change in diet can prevent, improve and in some cases even cure mental health disorders. We're pretty thrilled to have Georgia Ede MD - Harvard-trained nutritional pscychiatrist & author - joining us tomorrow for a live webinar on the topic of brain metabolism: how the food we eat shapes our brain. Interested in hearing what she and Defeat Diabetes founder Peter Brukner have to say? Check out the link below. The event will be recorded and available for replay via our YouTube channel. https://lnkd.in/ghjDx4Hz

What is generalized anxiety disorder? If you tend to worry a lot, even when there’s no reason, you may have generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). GAD means that you are worrying constantly and can’t control it. Healthcare providers diagnose GAD when your worrying happens on most days and for at least 6 months. GAD is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S. What causes GAD? GAD can develop when you can’t cope well with your internal stress. But it’s not clear why some people get it and others don’t. Experts have shown that the areas of the brain that control fear and anxiety are affected. Sometimes the symptoms of GAD can happen as a side effect of a medicine or of substance abuse. It can also be linked to health conditions (such as hyperthyroidism) that increase hormones. This can make the body response more excitable. GAD can be triggered by family or environmental stress. Long-term (chronic) illness and disease can also trigger GAD.

Day & Night Light Exposure. The video excerpt with the neurologist, Dr. Huberman, talks about how a lack of morning sunlight and excessive bright light in the evening disrupts circadian rhythm. Many mental health disorders, including anxiety and depression, are characterised by disrupted circadian rhythms and sleep (Burns, et al., 2023). It is vital that all stakeholders -worldwide- within the education industry incorporate educative content which enables students to manage their use of devices and ability to understand how to make healthy decisions, it is very evident that there is currently a sizeable hole in this area of awareness all over the world. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a medical condition characterized by an inability to control or reduce alcohol consumption despite harmful consequences. It includes a range of behaviors and symptoms, such as: - **Craving**: A strong desire or urge to drink. - **Loss of Control**: Drinking more or for longer than intended. - **Tolerance**: Needing to drink more to achieve the same effects. - **Withdrawal**: Experiencing symptoms like anxiety, tremors, or nausea when not drinking. AUD can lead to serious health issues, including liver disease, heart problems, and mental health disorders like depression. Risk factors include genetic predisposition, environmental influences, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment typically involves therapy, counseling, and sometimes medications to help manage cravings and reduce withdrawal symptoms. Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also provide crucial support for recovery. Early intervention is key to improving outcomes for those affected.
