By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. Are we really fully committed to a global non proliferation? Should we invest seriously on a non proliferation nuclear fuel cycle such as Thorium and deploy technologies that will contribute effectively to reduce Pu and Actinides like ADS? Why we continue not to close the fuel cycle in many part of the world? What are we doing to really deploy a non-proliferating nuclear energy? We must be more responsible and think about our dynasty promising them to leave tomorrow in a safer nuclear energy world!

Nuclear Deterrence and overall deterrence theory is a professional passion of mine. Nuclear security and adherence to international treaties where we are signatories is critical to the continued cooperation between nuclear-equipped nations. There are numerous agencies and organizations that execute these operations and the Y-12 National Security Complex is one of the more prominent ones. Episode 113 of The Afterburn Podcast sees Rain interview Dr. Martin Williamson, the Senior Director of Global Security and Strategic Partnerships for Consolidated Nuclear Security (quite the title!), an interesting sit down and dive into the prevailing notion that possessing nuclear weapons is more about deterring conventional conflict between states and never having to use them. A change in deterrence thought and strategy is necessary to avoid nuclear escalation in armed conflict with Russia. Traditional threat based deterrence strategies will not be successful, and a new strategy must address the conditions that might cause Russian leadership to employ nuclear weapons. https://lnkd.in/g_-nAQHU

⚛ Peace Through Strength ⚛ I was honored to be invited as a Distinguished Guest for the "Peace Through Strength Breakfast" in Washington DC, hosted by the National Institute for Deterrence Studies. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Administrator Jill Hruby (and former Director of Sandia National Laboratories) gave one of the most important talks on today's most pertinent issues, addressing an audience from Capitol Hill and industry leaders. She discussed the modernization of the Nuclear Security Enterprise and the role of Artificial Intelligence, among other critical topics. The NNSA has been accomplishing amazing work on all fronts. Full Transcript of remarks here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2KqDkhj 🌟 Highlights: ✅ Modernization of the Nuclear Security Enterprise: "At the end of the Cold War, the nuclear security enterprise envisioned, and took concrete steps to realize, an enterprise that was consolidated and less expensive to operate. We closed some production facilities and idled others, consolidated production activities, and rebuilt parts of our complex for a much smaller capacity. This made sense at a time of relative international stability and significant arms control agreements with Russia that substantially reduced the size of nuclear weapons stockpiles. Today, we’re again reimagining our enterprise with an emphasis on capability, flexibility, safety, and resilience." 💻 Artificial Intelligence: "The last dimension of nuclear security I will mention is the potential for disruptive technologies that create proliferation risks. Of course, one such disruption is artificial intelligence and large language models as tools that could make nuclear device design easier and faster. NNSA was tasked in the Executive Order on AI to red team models, and we have begun by using the Accenture model on a secure AWS cloud. DOE has also proposed a new initiative called FASST, Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence for Science, Security and Technology to enable the infrastructure – computing, data, people – to advance AI for energy, science, and national security." The study notes that NC3 is one of the least understood of the many parts that make up the US nuclear weapons architecture, in part because of the high levels of secrecy that surround it. Thus, it is difficult for policymakers and service leaders to focus needed attention on it.

The agreement will enable an exchange of information and knowledge on nuclear security projects and activities, to enhance the strategic collaboration between our two nations.
