For too long we've made #womenshealth synonymous with #reproductivehealth. But women are more than just vessels for childbirth! It cannot be stipulated enough. Just look at these statistics: 🧘♀️ Women spend 25% more of their lives in debilitating health than men, according to a report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the McKinsey Health Institute. 🧘♀️ The women's health gap includes a persistent data gap with women being under-diagnosed for certain conditions compared to men. 🧘♀️ “For millennia, medicine has functioned on the assumption that male bodies can represent humanity as a whole,” British feminist author, Criado Perez said. “As a result, we have a huge historical data gap when it comes to female bodies. Women are dying, and the medical world is complicit. It needs to wake up.” (Source: WEF) It's #AAPI month and as we recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans, it's important to show your support 🌺 . 🙋🏽♀️ I'm Anushay and I give tailored keynote speeches and presentations about the women’s health crisis in America at universities, medical institutions and organizations. 🙋🏽♀️ I'm also a bestselling author and podcast host on the subject. 🙋🏽♀️ Check out #ThePainGapPodcast and #ThePainGapBook. I'm booking keynotes and workshops for Q3 and Q4 2024 now! In 1994 the USA National Institutes of Health (NEH) introduced guidelines on the inclusion of women and minorities as subjects in clinical research stating that these groups are to be included in research unless a clear and compelling reason for exclusion can be justified. https://lnkd.in/gqZY4QvT 30 years ago…I started in the industry in 2000. There were lots of changes afoot.

To foster diversity and inclusion in the clinical research industry, building trust is absolutely critical. And making treatments effective and safe for all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and other factors requires a multifaceted approach across the entire industry. In his latest piece for Forbes Technology Council, our CEO Gadi Saarony shares insights into why fear and mistrust of clinical trials still exists in many communities today, despite research being highly regulated, and how we can leverage technology to increase trust. The FDA has just released a draft guidance for public comment—the first major update since 1993—focused on improving diversity in clinical testing. This is a significant development for the future of medicine, including in the growing field of psychedelic therapies. At Hystelica, we believe in advancing therapies that truly reflect the needs of all patients. This new guidance emphasizes: ✅ Increasing female enrollment in clinical trials ✅ Analyzing and interpreting sex-specific data ✅ Including sex-specific insights in regulatory submissions Why does this matter? Many psychedelic therapies are being explored for conditions disproportionately affecting women and understanding how they work in women's bodies is essential. By designing trials better we can uncover potential differences in how psychedelics impact men and women—ensuring better, safer, and more equitable treatments. That’s why Hystelica is committed to promoting best practices in clinical testing for psychedelics and beyond, in order to close the gender health gap and ensure future innovations are inclusive for all. What more would we like to see in clinical trials? ✅ Investigation of the impact of menstrual cycle phase in experience and outcomes ✅ Understanding how hormonal contraceptives (almost always required in clinical trials) impact treatments ✅ Investigation of drugs in women across the hormonal lifespan Read the FDA draft guidance here: https://lnkd.in/dyyP_EyV #Hystelica #PsychedelicResearch #ClinicalTrials #Womenshealth

🔬 ACADI Research Spotlight: Torch Recruit - making it easier for people living with diabetes to learn about and access clinical trials through their GPs 🔬 One of ACADIs priorities is to address equity in diabetes related healthcare with targeted initiatives to ensure all Australians, regardless of their geographic location or cultural background, have equal access to innovative products and clinical trials. We're excited to spotlight this innovative ACADI project aimed at doing just that: Torch Recruit is led by Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis and the University of Melbourne. This technology automatically identifies people in general practices across Australia who are eligible to participate in trials. 🔹 The ACADI project focuses on two things: 1. Expanding access: Increasing the number of general practices using Torch Recruit software, allowing more people to be informed about clinical trials. 2. Enhancing functionality: Improving the software based on feedback from researchers and users to make it more user-friendly and effective. This project aims to empower and enable more people living with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease to access cutting-edge treatments in clinical trials through their GPs. 🔹 Key Collaborators: Laura van Rooyen (University of Melbourne), Dr Tim Monaghan (University of Melbourne), Stephen D. (Torch Recruit), Sean Lo (Torch Recruit), Western Health Together, we are working towards a future where people can easily find out about and participate in clinical trials, leading to improved health outcomes and innovative treatments. Stay tuned for more updates on ACADI’s research and the people making it happen! #ClinicalResearch #HealthcareInnovation #GeneralPractice #Diabetes #ChronicKidneyDisease #ResearchSpotlight #ACADI Elif Ekinci David O'Neal Ray Kelly Renza Scibilia Sarah Glastras Sharon Kitt C Michelle le Roux (MAICD) MTPConnect Lauren Eve Kelly Erin McAllum Mana Liao, PhD

Ensuring #diversity in #clinicaltrials is crucial for developing effective treatments for all populations. Historically, trials have lacked diversity, often focusing on white, middle-class male participants. This has led to disparities in drug efficacy and safety across different racial and ethnic groups. Key points: ➡️ Diverse Representation: Including participants from various backgrounds ensures that new medicines are effective for everyone. ➡️ Pharmacogenetics: Research shows significant differences in drug metabolism and response among different racial and ethnic groups. ➡️ Inclusive Design: Trials should consider the lived experiences of participants, such as work schedules and access to health care. Efforts to increase diversity include legislative measures like the NIH Revitalization Act and community engagement strategies. By prioritizing diversity, we can improve health outcomes and ensure equitable access to medical advancements. https://lnkd.in/eVHpdJxp

👉 Sex-Based Drug Development Matters 👈 "Pharma companies can make significant contributions to closing the health gap between women and men while embracing a new framework for value creation. To do so, they should adopt explicit strategies to address sex-based differences across R&D, commercial, and medical affairs. From rethinking R&D approaches to enhancing the patient journey and refining commercialization strategies, companies can incorporate a women’s health lens into existing practices and unlock significant value while improving health outcomes for women." Thank you Lucy Perez and McKinsey & Company for your continued work to amplify the women's health gap and accelerate changing the narrative. Now is the time to ensure we are accounting for sex-specific differences to derisk the clinical trial process and achieve better health outcomes - let's go! 👩⚕️ Are we recognizing the impact of women in medicine? Over my academic years I participated in dozens of advisory boards where experts in diabetes gathered to provide their knowledge, perspectives and ideas. For many years those experts were men with an occasional female representative. Are male diabetes specialists so much more numerous than their female counterparts? Do they have better ideas? Is their research more meaningful? Are they better at communicating a message? When I joined pharma, one of the stipulations I had is that we would have at the very least, equal representation from women key opinion leaders at our advisory boards. There are many brilliant female minds in endocrinology who bring thoughtful, considerate and often unique perspectives to the table. At a recent meeting discussing the latest advances and key topics in autoimmune type 1 diabetes, the representation on stage was an incredible combination of academic powerhouses, insightful researchers, and brilliant communicators. And they were all women scientists! chantal mathieu, Emily Sims, Kimber Simmons and Riitta Veijola were absolutely fantastic! What is your perspective on this?
