South Africa, you can be proud... Dricus "Stillknocks" du Plessis has done it 🥳 He defeated one of the greatest UFC middleweights of all time despite all the predictions that he would come undone against Izzy 🇿🇦❤️ Imagine the pressure he was under, consider what might be going through his mind at the start of the 4th round... My God, that was just a perfect display of South African toughness! I've been waking up early for 10 years and watching the UFC Main Cards but I don't think I've ever experienced that level anxiety. The second Dricus walked out to our national anthem, Siya and Eben by his side, I honestly couldn't hold back the emotions. And it's not just me. I have Nicole sitting right next to me, she's not a massive sports fan but we've both got tears in our eyes because in that moment, you understand what it means to our country. 25min later and I can hear other people screaming in our neighbourhood as Dricus secures his first title defence. You don't have to love fighting or the UFC but it's important to understand one thing. From the beginning, people have discounted Dricus. With each win, they said he would be exposed once he fought better competition. Today, there can be no denying that the man is pure class and all South Africans can be proud of what he achieved. Dricus is a special athlete for sure but that mental and emotional toughness is something else. The crowd in Perth have been booing him all week and he turned it into fuel to win. Very few people can do this. Dricus, we are so proud of you! You have been the most incredible patriot from the very beginning, you've flown the South African flag with pride, and you have put yet another smile on the nation's face! Long may the champ reign supreme. I think we may have the UFC coming to South Africa soon 🇿🇦❤️ PS.
