The #1 question I always get asked as an undergraduate studying public health is: what is it? Well, for all those wondering, here it is in all its glory! Public health is a broad field that focuses on aspects related to the public's health. I am personally interested in the epidemiological side of public health, in addition to health policy.

Celebrating the 29th annual National Public Health Week starting today, April 1! This year's theme is Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health. Today's topic is Civic Engagement. As per the American Public Health Association, a recent analysis of civic engagement and state health outcomes from 1996 to 2020 showed that in states where people are more civically engaged and vote more, public health outcomes are better.
Well... I love this graphic! ❤️
It's always an incredible effort to explain in just a few words my job and how all the disciplines are connected.
So, am I a … researcher, health manager, epidemiologist, health policy expert, global health focused, clinical medical doctor, all at the same time?
I guess yes? 😅
And not because I'm a superhero (not at all, trust me 😱), but because in public/global health curricula, all these competencies are highly integrated! (And in the graphic, prevention, disease surveillance and control, vaccination, research, monitoring, and evaluation sections are still missing!)
🌊Sometimes it's not easy to find our own job identity given that list of public health aspects and navigating the job offers landscape while searching for the right job position.
🪴Relations, networking, passion, and intuitive feelings definitely help me find the right way and achieve clarity for my future.
What about your experience?
