Finding “product-market fit” in digital health is the easier-said-than-done aspect of building a healthcare startup. My stance is that most founders across every industry fool themselves into thinking they have product-market fit because they've adopted a bastardized understanding that leads to simply validating their biases so they can raise money and optimize for business models that don't create value at scale. True PMF takes discipline and is a relentless focus on the end users to the point where they love your products so much that selling becomes more about keeping up with demand, and customers become evangelists. Why is this less prevalent in healthcare? Because the end consumer is rarely the purchaser with the many layers of health insurer, provider, and government bureaucracy. If you understand this, then you can see how Andreessen Horowitz is arbitraging this insight to bet on founders who have the discipline to execute towards PMF despite the systemic issues in healthcare and when most traditional healthcare players default to “this is how things work in healthcare.”

Great to see ABHI and Peter Ellingworth leading on the potential for Digital HealthTech to help address todays and tomorrows health challenges. We’re at an inflection point that requires us all to think and act differently to grasp this opportunity. Now’s the time for us to re-imagine how health is delivered.

A motivated cohort of digital health innovators from Graz – HerzensApp GmbH, Probando, Opus Novo GmbH & Predicting Health – made their mark at the Digital Health Ljubljana Conference 2024. It wasn't just an opportunity to showcase their products; it was a vibrant exchange of ideas and a chance to connect with the like-minded digital health community in Ljubljana and Start-ups from across Europe. I would sum up the presentations and the talks in a way that we stand just at the beginning of a transformative era in health and technology. The synergy of health and data holds definitely potential, along with its fair share of challenges. Enabling interfaces between data silos to make the use of clinical and patient-related data possible, perfect user experience, and dealing with concerns from users are some important topics. And of course the challenges of a long-grown established health system that is somehow hard to innovate. Yet, the journey is as promising as it is crucial – and there is a lot of pressure on the public health systems so we have to put our coins on innovation with the ultimate beneficiaries being the patients and the health system at large (a lot of chances for health tech entrepreneurs).
