Empire State-sized underground energy storage project is 'ten times bigger than nearest competitor' An energy storage facility bigger than the Empire State Building is being built under a Finnish city to save summer sun for winter – and there could be a “global opportunity” for systems like it in the future, claimed the chief of the company behind the plan. When it is delivered – scheduled as early as 2028 at a cost of €200m ($217m) – the #Varanto project is planned to hold up to 90GWh of power, a scale that appears to be unprecedented for energy storage facilities. “As far as I know, it’s about ten times bigger than the next one,” Jukka Toivonen, CEO of Vantaan Energia, the Finnish energy company behind Varanto, told Recharge as the project prepares to begin construction work this summer. https://lnkd.in/gpN9ECQ8 #energystorage #US #renewableenergy

Today, on International Sun Day, we at TOLSA are celebrating the power of #solar energy in our transition towards renewable energies. ♻️ 💡 Since the launch of our pilot photovoltaic plant in 2022, we have been taking significant steps towards the integration of #renewable energies. Our solar panels are capable of providing up to 10% of the electricity needs of our factory in Madrid. And this is just the beginning: among our energy-saving measures, we have improved the insulation of our mineral-drying equipment (thermal insulation).🌡️ What’s more, a project is currently underway aimed at promoting natural drying through direct exposure to the sun at our mines. This helps us reduce our gas consumption associated with artificial drying processes. Thanks to our commitment to responsible environmental practices and energy #efficiency, we have reduced our scope-2 emissions by 23% since 2019.
