I had a great conversation with Lucas Mearian and Computerworld about the critical juncture facing the semiconductor industry. Urgent attention is needed to address the workforce challenge we are currently experiencing. It's crucial to make the Semiconductor industry appealing to the next generation of talent. "The challenging thing these days is making the semiconductor industry look cool," as I often mention. Semiconductors power everything from smartphones to advanced military systems, yet many young people are unaware of the impact they can make in this field. To bridge the skills gap, we must focus on upskilling, reskilling, and "pre-skilling" to equip individuals with necessary skills before they enter the job market. It's not just about filling positions; it's about creating an innovative and growth-focused workforce. Projections show a significant shortfall of skilled workers in the coming years, making it imperative to establish partnerships between partners like ManpowerGroup, educational institutions and semiconductor companies to build a talent pipeline. Hello there, connections. It's often said that the journey is better cherished than the destination. I interpret that to mean that the most important parts of any endeavour are the lessons learnt along the way. And throughout my time at Juniper, I've had the opportunity to absorb so many of these valuable lessons from the projects I've tackled and the people I've worked with. I've learnt to work tirelessly at a problem until I've solved it. To try the same thing again and again expecting a different result is a sign of insanity. But the opposite, to visualise multiple different approaches and test them out one by one to see what does work? That's the sign of an engineer. And I'd like to thank Catherine A, my manager during my internship, for being such a perfect example of exactly that. I've learnt to be confident in my own abilities. To fully believe that no problem is beyond solving and that no error is unfixable, as long as I pour in all of my effort. My mentor Vishant Thakur has to be commended for answering a hundred of my doubts without ever making me feel lesser for asking them. I've learnt to hold myself to higher standards. To judge not based on my past actions alone, but also on the mindset with which I act now. It's probably the toughest aspect of transitioning from a student to a professional, and I thank Manish Galrani for showing me how much these standards one sets build one's career. I got to work on the very networking protocols I remember reading about in textbooks 3 years ago. Computer Networks has always been an interesting field for me, and I'm glad to have had this opportunity to view it as an insider. I'm sure of one thing: I leave Juniper as a better Engineer. Onwards and upwards.
