Magnesium is — A drone construction material! #Magnesium based materials can become an essential part of design concepts of UAV’s, especially if flight maneuvers require high rigidity and noise pollution become critical decision criteria. Also crash-worthiness is an aspect where magnesium has benefits. The authors are convinced that the economic advantages of using magnesium based materials in drone construction may be further increased if promising techniques such as e.g., performing sheet metal hydroforming by means of UHPC dies are applied. As compared to CFRP and related composite materials, magnesium based materials can be easier separated and recycled once the UAV’s reached the end of its service-life. Commission Receives High Number Of Applications Responding To Call For Strategic Projects Under The Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) The European Commission received 170 applications by the 22 August deadline for Strategic Projects under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). The applications cover many of the strategic raw materials identified under the CRMA, including Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt and Graphite for batteries, as well as rare earth elements for permanent magnets. They span all the stages of the value chain with 77 applications focused on extraction, 58 on processing, 30 on recycling and five on substitution. https://lnkd.in/evzmjv5X
