We were delighted to help pupils from Gleniffer High School recently. EDT (Engineering Development Trust) offers young people active learning experiences in STE(A)M-related careers. We helped the group form the school with their Bronze Level Industrial Cadet project. We are pleased to assist with projects if they help stimulate interest in our industry and develop good talent for the future. THE ENGINEERING COLLEGE STORY 👨💻 "So, now the fourth year of our engineering journey has begun. College has given me remarkable experiences, like meeting new people and learning from them. I must say, the college experience is completely opposite of school. In school, we had to follow a strict schedule to study. But in college, there's no fixed routine. We make our own schedules and try to find our purpose and passion. In college, we experience life in a completely different way, seeing the practical aspects of life. Now, God knows after this last year of college what the future hold on the other side of the college gate. When expectations meet the reality. #EngineeringLife #CollegeJourney #Shivam #StudentExperience #HigherEducation #CollegeVsSchool #FindingPurpose #PracticalLearning #CollegeLife #FutureGoals #personalbranding

Happy Engineer's Day! 🎉👷♀️👷♂️ At ibrick, we believe that every child has the potential to be an engineer. Our brick-based STEM projects are designed to nurture this potential, turning playtime into valuable engineering experience. Here's how ibrick is building the engineers of tomorrow: - Hands-on Problem Solving: Kids tackle real engineering challenges by building and optimizing their creations for various missions. - Mechanical Principles in Action: Through playing with gears and motors, complex concepts become tangible and understandable. - Iterative Design Process: Children learn to plan, build, test, and improve – mirroring real-world engineering practices. - Spatial Reasoning: Interpreting and following building instructions enhances 3D thinking skills crucial for engineering. By engaging with ibrick's projects, children aren't just playing – they're developing the foundational skills of engineering. They're learning to see the world as a set of solvable problems, limited only by their creativity and perseverance. To all engineers out there: Thank you for building our world. To the parents and educators: Thank you for nurturing our future innovators. Join the ibrick STEM adventure and start #EngineersDay #STEM #FutureEngineers #LEGOLearning #ibrick

As Sandwell Business Ambassadors, we are passionate about helping Sandwell’s businesses grow and thrive while creating opportunities that benefit all members of our community. That’s why we’re delighted to celebrate the incredible achievements of the Sandwell Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Centre on its first anniversary. This £5.1 million state-of-the-art facility, funded by the Government Towns Fund and developed in partnership with Sandwell Council, has already made a remarkable impact. Over the past year, nearly 500 learners have gained cutting-edge STEM training in fields like toolmaking, hydraulics, pneumatics and CAD, creating pathways to higher education and careers with leading employers like HydraPower dynamics. The second phase of the campus, launching soon, will increase capacity by 80% by 2025, ensuring even more learners can benefit from these opportunities. Christine Hinson one of our Sandwell Business Ambassadors, who has been championing this project, said: "The Sandwell Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Centre is a shining example of how investment in education can drive meaningful change in a community." The centre’s success highlights how investment in education and skills directly supports Sandwell businesses, equipping them with the talent they need to thrive. Congratulations to The Sandwell College, their learners and all the partners involved. Together, we’re shaping the future of engineering and manufacturing right here in Sandwell. Hi all, Recently, I was selected as an Arkwright Scholar, and am thrilled to let you all know about this. The application process started around December, when I had to describe my engineering interests and talk about an engineering project that I was working towards. I chose my GCSE DT project, though at the time it was unfinished, and I was scared that it was not a good project whatsoever to submit (considering that I was just prototyping at that point) but still decided to apply and give it a shot. Then came the exam round, made easier by the fact that I was studying GCSE DT, in preparing for the exam round, I learnt a lot about engineering and electronics, and the design challenge questions which the exam consisted of were really fun and interesting to tackle, and made me apply all of the new and interesting information I had acquired throughout my preparation. The final round was the interview round, and this was where I really could show my interests in engineering, I had to deliver a short presentation on my project, and by now it was finished, and I was able to show to the interviewers how I iterated through the design process and how I wanted to further improve it in the future. At the end of this rigorous selection process, I am very grateful to everyone who helped me along this process, and am looking forward to furthering my interests in engineering. On Monday, Arun Balajiee L., Aileen T., Rezwana Islam, Katerina Christhilf, and I conducted a student panel discussion on learning engineering (LE) at the #ICICLE Learning Engineering Conference. We shared our individual journeys in the field of LE through three chapters: our initial involvement and understanding of LE, our values in conducting LE research and practice, the challenges we've encountered, the support we expect as students, and our visions, career aspirations, and the future potential for the field of LE. It was enlightening to see the diverse understandings of the concept of learning engineering. Whether you consider LE a domain, a method, a competency, or a process, its core principles of human-centeredness, evidence-based approaches, contextualization, scalability, and sustainability of educational solutions are our shared values. Supports that students interested in or exploring LE are expecting include opportunities like open challenges tailored for students to stimulate involvement in using LE to solve real-world problems and provide a platform to showcase their work; mentorship that includes feedback on student-led initiatives; and a clearer pipeline of LE career opportunities and hiring practices that align more with the broad scope of LE rather than a narrow technical focus. I greatly appreciate the emphasis the LE community places on student voices by featuring our panel on the first day of the conference in a dedicated session. This decision signifies giving students a seat at the table, creating an inclusive environment that revolves around their needs, and empowering them to be actively engaged and satisfied with their LE education and career. Even if I am almost no longer a student, I would love to help with any student-led initiatives to propel the field of LE to be more inclusive, supportive, and engaging for fellow students. See you all next year! 💛 💛 💛
