It was somewhat apt that we chose such a historic building for a business update meeting last Thursday; after all, it was our inaugural meeting under the ownership of Suir Engineering. So, the historic surroundings of the University of Glasgow Students’ Union provided the perfect backdrop to what was a truly inspiring day. Taylor and Fraser’s Managing Director, Andrew Norris, provided a detailed overview of the business strategy. He outlined the many opportunities available for Taylor and Fraser and its employees in the Scottish market. Andrew also identified some key initiatives the business must adapt to deliver on the opportunities. Brendan Moley, Chief Operating Officer at Suir Engineering, updated the staff on the reasons behind their first-ever acquisition and highlighted the synergies that exist between the respective companies. Following this, Angus MacInnes, Willie McGill, David Agnew, Robert Hunter and Ian Nairn updated everyone on the status of their respective departments and the plans for the business moving forward. What was an enlightening and refreshing day exploring the business and its growth strategy was rounded off with an informative and impactful interactive dramatisation of a workplace incident. The practical session was expertly delivered by Theatre at Work, which has over thirty years of experience assisting businesses with culture change by providing learning experiences that captivate workforces. The 13th of March was the first step in delivering our strategic plans; it was an excellent opportunity to reflect on past achievements while setting our sights on the opportunities for future growth. Thanks to all those in attendance, and a special thanks to the University of Glasgow Students’ Union for the hospitality on the day. We are pleased to support mental health awareness every day Taylor and Fraser fully support World Mental Health Day, which the Mental Health Foundation promotes. It’s a valuable event in the calendar that focuses attention on mental health. However, we hope that all employers appreciate that it’s about more than raising awareness on a single day; for Taylor and Fraser, it’s genuinely an ongoing priority in the business. One in four people of working age will suffer from a mental health condition at some point in their lives. By training Supervisors and Managers in Mental Health Awareness, we can help ensure that there is someone on site who can recognise the signs of mental ill health in employees when they first develop. This can mean that someone struggling with their mental health can get the help they need much earlier on and be signposted accordingly. Taylor & Fraser takes a proactive approach to mental health in the workplace. We have ‘mental health first-aiders’ who are specially trained to recognise and respond when they identify people struggling at work. A mental health first aider is a person who has been trained to administer mental health first aid, which an accredited mental health awareness instructor has provided. Mental health first aid is the help offered to someone developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental illness or a mental health crisis. First aid is given until appropriate professional help is received or the situation is resolved. We fully appreciate and accept our responsibility to every member of the Taylor and Fraser team, and we encourage all businesses to have suitably trained staff who can identify and help when needed. World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year, the World Federation for Mental Health has set the theme of workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities. https://lnkd.in/eF4Nm5mU #WMHD #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness
