There isn’t enough information about this. If this Bill isn’t blocked, people will die. I am already being forced to undergo reassessment of eligibility (after being a participant for 5 years), and the letter with details is generic. My advocate has not been able to get into contact with the person doing the assessment, despite the “we’re here to help” BS on the letter. It will cost at least $1200, up to $1500 and possibly more depending on the rheumatologist visits, that I cannot get back for the assessments I need to prove I am eligible. There’s no guarantee I will be able to stay a participant. People in need of 24/7 care could be forced out of individual accommodation into shared accommodation with a 1:3 support ratio, which has been proven to put people at risk of bullying, abuse, torture, and to even cause deaths. Victorian councils are stopping aged care because of changes made by the Commonwealth government. This will burden existing non-government supports, and put people at risk of neglect as well. (https://lnkd.in/gDAip6M4) 1. We could lose our right to reasonable and necessary support, as it is currently stated in the NDIS Act. 2. We could be forced to undergo assessments to prove our needs. 3. We don’t know what these assessments will look like, or how they will be used to assess our needs. 4. We could lose our choice and control over what we can purchase with our NDIS funding. 5. People could be forced off the NDIS before the State and Territory governments establish ‘foundational supports’; leaving many in our community without support. 6. People with psychosocial disability could be treated less fairly. 7. People who need 24/7 support could be forced to share support, and be put at greater risk of abuse and neglect. 8. It could be harder to appeal an inadequately funded NDIS plan. 9. Codesign is not required by the legislation. 10. The current Bill does not consider the whole person or the impact of multiple disabilities when assessing the need for support. https://lnkd.in/gBx3pZnH #NDIS #NDIA #BillShorten #KillTheBill #Ableism #CoDesign

Be afraid. Be very afraid. If there was any doubt that this government is conspiring against disabled people to reinstitutionalise those who are too difficult, this article by Rick Morton should erase that doubt…. If the NDIS Amendments Bill passes it will use the same tactic to reinstitutionalise NDIS Participants. We know they have already tested out how to manipulate the public narrative to justify forcing people into group homes. It doesn’t matter what assurances the Minister or the NDIA give, this move in aged care shows us clearly how they will make current NDIA decision making practices about shared support into laws. We must strive to overturn this Bill with every ounce of fight we have. If we don’t, this is the diabolical future people requiring 24/7 support will face. “When will they send me to my death in a place of horrors and neglect?” many will be asking today.

#NDIS Minister Bill Shorten rejected his department's suggestion that the #Productivity Commission run the major NDIS Review of the scheme, believing it shouldn't be "marking its own homework" after conducting two earlier inquiries. However, appointing an independent panel led by Bruce Bonyhady doesn't entirely eliminate concerns about #conflicts of interest. Bonyhady's involvement in the NDIS since its inception could lead to questions about his impartiality, especially if he has pre-existing views or relationships within the scheme that could influence the #review process. From a legal standpoint, while Shorten has the discretion to choose the body responsible for the review, there might be legal implications if the chosen panel's findings are perceived as #biased or inadequate. Ensuring that the review adheres to legal standards & principles of fairness is essential to maintain the integrity of the NDIS and its ongoing operations. While Shorten claims his decision to appoint an #independent panel for the NDIS review may have been motivated by a desire to avoid perceived conflicts of interest, it's crucial to scrutinize this decision and its transparency, #accountability & effectiveness of the chosen approach to ensure that the review serves the BEST INTERESTS of NDIS PARTICIPANTS and #stakeholders. https://lnkd.in/gpuFp7tA

I was pleased to see the recent announcement from the Australian Government about an increase in fines when a NDIS participant is hurt or injured under a provider’s care. Incredibly, the previous legislation valued a worker’s life at 38 times higher than a NDIS participant’s. This new penalty of up to $15 million brings the participant in line with the maximum penalty for harming a worker. It also gives the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission the power to refer providers for criminal prosecution if there’s a serious failure to comply with registration conditions. This new power is welcomed in the industry and shows the government’s commitment to safeguard vulnerable populations. However, I feel it’s important to recognise the support and resources needed to integrate historical and evolving standards sustainably. Achieving this level of care and compliance often calls for more extensive training, ongoing development, and frameworks tuned to continuous improvements. These activities require time, focus, and financial support. In addition to these legislative requirements, we also believe there should be a profound investment in both people and practice. With enough resources, businesses can improve their team’s skills, create safer environments and improve quality of life for NDIS participants. With this support, everyone, including participants and caregivers, can feel safe, respected, and valued in a caring system that protects us all. #ndis #disability #government #vulnerablepopulation #safegaurds #quality #compliance #improvements #training #complexcare #clinicalcare https://lnkd.in/gHbhu6Wd
