New Climate Funding Alert! The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program is poised to distribute $5 billion to states, municipalities, Tribes, and other governments to tackle local climate challenges. The first phase of the program has already allocated $250 million in planning grants, and almost every US state** has responded by submitting a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) to the EPA. These Climate Plans are pivotal for: - Addressing climate change - Advancing clean energy - Lowering energy costs - Cleaning up air pollution - Creating jobs Key Insights from Initial Reviews: - 47 Climate Plans from 45 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C. were reviewed, covering 90% of the US population and carbon emissions. - States included 654 priority measures across sectors like transportation (190 measures), buildings (147), electricity (114), and waste (88). - There is a significant variation in the number of measures per state, reflecting unique local priorities. Next Steps: The EPA will soon release $4.6 billion for states to implement their Climate Plans. This massive investment aims to drive nationwide progress in cutting climate pollution. Please reach out if you'd like to see if we can leverage these funds to achieve transformative climate action and sustainable growth for your organization. #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #CPRG #IRA #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalJustice #GreenJobs https://lnkd.in/gxwuG97u

Vermont is on the verge of passing a pioneering measure requiring major polluting companies to contribute to the cost of damages caused by the climate crisis. Other states, including New York and California, are closely monitoring this move. The proposed climate superfund bill, which is modeled after the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund program, would require major #fossilfuel companies operating in the state to pay billions of dollars for their past emissions. If approved, this measure would make Vermont the first state in the US to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for their contributions to global warming. #ClimateAction #Vermont https://lnkd.in/dMXhq5bS

Formerly Wildlife Zoologist/Director at BIOSTAT. Retired from consulting disgusted with government and industry undermining science and evidence based decision making while engaging in misinformation and greenwashing.
This is a very good idea to implement in Australia. It just requires governmenta at all levels with an integrity and credibility spine..... 😂😂 Sorry, I had to laugh at how improbable that last sentence is in this political climate. #climatechangetax #fossilfuel #climateimpact #industryresponsibility https://lnkd.in/gtSbvPV9

Big climate news from the Empire State this week: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and NYSERDA released an outline for a cap-and-invest program that will cut climate pollution and drive investments in an affordable and equitable clean energy transition. An ambitious program with a high-integrity emissions cap will play a critical role in getting NY on track to meet its climate targets & building a safer, healthier future for New Yorkers. There are important details yet to be determined, but it's clear Governor Hochul and her administration remain committed to the challenging and essential work of meeting climate goals. Last week's announcement from EPA marked a historic win for Southern communities, checking the power sector’s impact on our climate, mismanagement of toxic waste, and pollution of our air and water. The Biden administration is leaving no room for doubt, our nation is serious about addressing threats from electric utilities and fossil-fuels to clean air, clean water, and a stable climate. Just as we have for decades, SELC will make sure the South gets the full benefit of these new measures, and push for more solutions that protect our communities and lead the country toward a zero-carbon future. This week, Colorado released the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Reduction Roadmap 2.0 – a plan meant to chart the pathway to achieve the state’s climate targets that are enshrined in law. While the state has made important progress, in particular on cutting emissions from the oil & gas methane and power sectors, the report shows we’re still off track from the climate action Coloradans have demanded. And the new roadmap ultimately falls short of reaching the destination: meeting Colorado’s climate targets. As Quentin Young describes, Colorado continues to heavily rely on voluntary action and incentives, when the state’s own analysis underscores it’s not enough. It’s clear we need back up from policies that actually limit pollution and get us on track for the strongest possible future for our communities. https://lnkd.in/g97bHaJx
