Two main priorities for Banks & Credit Unions in 2024 are to improve digital experiences for consumers and enhancing their financial-wellness support. One way many FIs are meeting both goals is by partnering with Greenlight, providing parents a better way to give allowance & teach their kids about money. Kudos to Bank of Hawaii for practicing what they preach and creating money-savvy kids/teens across The Aloha State! #financialwellness #youthbanking #digitaltransformation
We asked some of our employees to share how they teach their children financial literacy skills—and they delivered. Maria shared that she helps her daughters think about budgeting as a superpower—and with great power, comes great responsibility. That’s where Greenlight can help. Greenlight is a family finance app that helps parents teach children and teens hands-on money management skills like budgeting and responsible spending. Help your kids become finance superheroes by signing up for your complimentary Greenlight subscription today, now available for Bank of Hawaii checking and savings account customers: https://ow.ly/QSHP50QtpRF #FinancialLiteracy #MoneyManagement #Greenlight #FinancialEducation

I had a 💡 moment during a taster session of ‘Talk, Learn, Do’, a MoneyHelper resource developed to help parents & carers talk to their children about money. Children who are good with money usually learn these skills from their parents or carers. However, as we chatted, I realised that I have missed so many opportunities to support my own children’s financial awareness. But I was also reassured by my learning – and my colleague Lee Phillips MBE who led the session (& recently-honoured for her achievements in financial education) – that it definitely wasn’t too late to build new, positive habits in our family. 💸 Money is often invisible these days, certainly in our house, with all our banking done online, purchases of all sizes made at the tap of a screen, bills paid by direct debit or electronic transfer. And we haven’t really ‘done’ pocket money yet – I did get a special debit card for children but they didn’t really use it & I ended up paying for sweets & toys on my own card anyway. But without seeing daily budgeting and transactions, it’s even more important to find ways to get my children involved so they can learn how to manage money as they get older. I also worry they don’t really understand the value of money, and that’s something I want to change. I loved the resources we looked through. There’s no right or wrong approach to this, it’s about what works for your family. ✋ I’m going to start with giving £1 or £2 a week in cash as pocket money, and speak to my children about how to manage it but also that it’s their decision what they spend it on or save it for. I’m also going to think consciously about opportunities to show them how I manage our household finances – for example, showing them when I pay a bill (they might be surprised to learn that everything we use costs money!) Are you looking to set your child up for financial success from an early age? Here are three compelling reasons why you should consider opening a KiddoSave account on the Herconomy app for your kids: 1. Goal-oriented saving: With a KiddoSave account, children can save for important goals and purchases. Whether it's a new toy, a special outing, or even an education fee, having a dedicated savings account empowers children to set goals and work towards achieving them. 2. Learning the value of saving: By helping them save, children can learn the value of saving money firsthand. They develop important financial habits such as budgeting, setting priorities, and delaying gratification. These lessons lay the foundation for responsible money management later in life. 3. Building financial literacy: Opening a KiddoSave account is a valuable opportunity to teach children about financial literacy. They learn basic concepts such as earning interest, making deposits and withdrawals, and tracking their savings progress. These skills are essential for navigating the complexities of personal finance as they grow older. By opening a KiddoSave account on the Herconomy app, you're giving your child the tools they need to become financially savvy and independent individuals. #herconomy #kiddosave
