Why do we do Zartnir? The idea and vision of the program are very exciting, but let's understand why we decided to do Zartnir. It is proven that people with less financial capital are less likely to get access to high-quality education. Persistence of the current economic climate might lead to further losses in Armenia’s human capital: 35% of Armenia’s school students in late primary school are unable to read and understand a short, age-appropriate text by age 10 [World Bank] But the good news is, that everything is not so hopeless. Multiple research studies have found that there is an effective and affordable tool to reduce inequality in education and improve access to it––books & reading. By creating reading clubs and purchasing great books in the Armenian language Zartnir gives hope for a better future for Armenian kids. The feedback we receive is the confirmation of the above-mentioned fact: Students’ feedback: 83% of our students mention Zartnir’s impact on academic progress, 97% of them are absolutely happy to be in Zartnir, Teachers’ feedback: 54% of our teachers report the academic progress of students who participate in Zartnir, 69% of them respond that students have a positive change in their basic skills. Read in our next post how we choose the teachers, who are going to conduct the reading clubs. Greatness starts with a dream...
The DLD Conference was life changing for me in many ways, but more importantly because I got to give a keynote speech about our lofty dreams of helping the forgotten children find their rightful place in the world again. I was a little nervous before going up stage, but God’s promise to us remains true that he hasn’t given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power and of a Soundmind. My speech was captured as a top highlight of the event and deeply resonated with thousands of people in attendance. Every time I get to talk about the work that we do @chessinslums , I’m reminded that I do not speak for myself alone, but on behalf of millions of children across Africa whose hopes and dreams could depend on this. It’s a privilege of a lifetime that I’m able to stand in the gap for them. And someday, when the stars we bring up align, they will get to speak on global stages like this one, and extend the same opportunities to other children like them. Here’s to raising a new generation of thinkers that will challenge the status quo and bring Africa to the prosperity it truly deserves. Here’s to doing great things from a small place❤️

As a grant manager, my work is in the long-game, systemic change of basic education. There are few easy wins. This morning we received our Matric results from participating schools. 2023 was YEAR EIGHT. In 2023, several schools have scored 95% pass rates: That's what you expect from high fee-paying, exclusive schools. Phenomenal in no-fee, non-selective schools, serving marginalized communities with so many challenges. Other schools achieved 80+% for the first time - also aspirant in deep-rural communities - in schools that were scoring 30% - 40% pass rates in recent years. The credit belongs to our grantees who do this work everyday, and to the staff at South Africa's public schools - they are the Siya Kolisis and the Peter-Stephs of education - that South Africa's children count on. Today was a day that eight years of hard work turned in to 'overnight magic'. It's proof that it can be done. More at (soon to be updated!) https://lnkd.in/dTSAnSkf

Ramadan, a time for Muslims to focus on prayer, reflection, charity, and community. Fasting from dawn to dusk is a core practice, fostering empathy for the less fortunate and strengthening spiritual discipline. Family meals, especially the evening Iftar gathering to break the fast, are a hallmark of the month. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲: 1. Loneliness and Isolation: Missing family meals and traditions can be difficult. 2. Managing Meals: Preparing suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar meals can be challenging with busy schedules. 3. Maintaining Focus: Fasting can impact energy levels, making it harder to concentrate on studies. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽: 1. Promote Inclusivity: Raise awareness about Ramadan through campus events and announcements. 2. Offer Flexible Scheduling: Consider flexible scheduling for exams or assignments that might conflict with prayer times. 3. Organize Iftar Gatherings: Provide communal spaces for students to break their fast together. 4. Connect Students with Resources: Direct students to Muslim student associations or local mosques for support and guidance. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽: 1. Be Understanding: Show sensitivity towards Ramadan practices and potential difficulties. 2. Offer Accommodations: Provide flexible deadlines or breaks during fasting hours. 3. Create a Safe Space: Encourage students to discuss challenges and offer emotional support. 4. Direct to Resources: Refer students to campus support services or religious leaders for guidance. By creating a supportive environment, colleges and universities can ensure that students observing Ramadan away from home can have a meaningful and enriching spiritual experience.

My experience working with over 50 Iraqi Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) over the past two years has solidified my belief that they are uniquely positioned to serve their communities better than international organizations. One example is PEER organization, whose impactful work, including their recent report has shown the vital role CSOs play in understanding and analyzing the issues faced by communities and building a stronger, more resilient Iraq. #localisation #iom_iraq
We're proud to share our latest achievement! 🎉 Our new report from the 'Resilient Nineveh' program, Peer Organization for Youth Development in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM Iraq ),Wasl Civil Society Fund, sheds light on the challenges returnees in Nineveh face with educational integration, while also highlighting the progress made. Despite the difficulties, most children have rebuilt their friendships and interact well with their peers. However, additional support is still needed to further enhance their social and academic skills. Check out the full report and share your thoughts with us!
