With a breach of trust like this, deleting your account is the best response. Glassdoor can say that your name is confidential and they might be sincere. They may have every good intention of keeping it private. However, third parties may force a breach of this privacy. When the lawyers come knocking with a court order or warrant, they may fight the good fight, but will they win? At least before this, they didn't have the information. An even greater risk is a security breach that results in a public mass data dump. There your supposedly anonymous comments will be with your identity attached to them for anyone to see. They also will randomly update your profile information with information they find out about you which may or may not be accurate. #privacy

Do more #privacylaws and related ones on age design codes and #trustandsafety ➡️ the inadvertent effect of less anonymity 🫥directly or indirectly through foreseeable industry changes? Ultimately it paradoxically often means more efforts to #verify #identity, which raises real tensions with societal and user desire for privacy. Depending on how businesses choose to resolve that tension, we really lose out on an important communal public square to air real truths that are difficult to come out otherwise. Hard to do any hard causal effects analyses, but I wonder what the research will say in say ten years. Or maybe 2 years. https://lnkd.in/eW8Ck5gn

I think this is my #privacy 🚩 of the month. I think it is safe to say that if you've ever left a review you wanted to stay private, it may be a good time to delete your Glassdoor account. "Alarm about those changes recently spread on social media, where several people described logging in to old Glassdoor accounts and allegedly finding their names had been added, they say, without their consent." https://lnkd.in/gQkDyKnA #redflag #privacy #cybersecurity #security #infosec #dataprivacy #securitycontrols

Did you know you can select a 'legacy contact' for your Facebook account (if you still have one (😬)? This person can basically manage your page at the time of your passing. Might seem like a little thing, but untangling this can be brutal for the person that's handling account closure. So do your fam/friend a favor...takes 3 mins...go ahead and knock it out to save them hours later!: - Login to FB - click photo on top right - click settings & privacy - click settings - on left side, click "Password & Security" - on left side, click "Personal Details" - Click "Account ownership & control" - Click "memorialization" - Click on your account - Select "Memorialize" - Select your legacy contact by typing their name - Confirm info saved What your legacy contact can/can't do w/ your account is a lengthly list. Link to that in comments!
