Helping Software Sales Reps Get To The Top 1% Without Burning Out 👊 Former #1 Rep at Salesforce in 4 Different Roles | Named Top 40 CROs to Watch In 2023 | 5x Sales Leader | Author | Beautiful Savage
This is going to rattle some cages but as someone who worked at Salesforce I know why this opinion is dead wrong
And if you buy into it you don't grasp the fundamentals of business
For context Dreamforce is arguably the largest tech conference in the world now that gets 150-200 thousand people to attend every year
That's 150k+ of people in companies. A majority of those attendees are leaders and executives for their companies.
The reason why Salesforce cracked the code is because they know what you're really selling with an event like this
What 99% of conferences do is they only focus on selling to 1/3 of what executives care about which is helping them move their business forward
The other 2/3 are more powerful which is why Dreamforce is so massively successful
Think about being an executive at a company. You have 100s of things on your plate
To spend almost a week not at your business is a massive ask
I saw this first hand when I would bring my most strategic accounts to Dreamforce multiple times
It was very difficult to get them to commit, but once they attended it transformed our relationship
And it's because they got incredible business value combined with the other 2/3
Which is being inspired and last but not least
They had a great time
In year's past they've had the following people speak:
Barack Obama
Bill Clinton
Hillary Clinton
Al Gore
Eric Schmidt
Sheryl Sandberg
Marissa Mayer
Tony Robbins
Deepak Chopra
George Lucas
Neil Young
All of them are there to help inspire the people
Here's some of the bands they've had:
Foo Fighters
U2
Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys
Metallica
Fleetwood Mac
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Killers
Gary Clark Jr.
Bruno Mars
All of them are there to help people have a good time
And both of these lists help sell tickets to Dreamforce
At the end of the day the executives you sell into are humans
They what help growing their business
They want to be inspired
They like to have fun
As a rep I witnessed my relationships transform at this event many times like clockwork because of how effective it is
The amount of business that gets done at Dreamforce is INSANE
And it's because they crush checking all 3 of those boxes
And lets be real for a second...do you honestly think Salesforce would keep doing this year after year if this model didn't greatly help the bottom line?
And the healthier the bottom line of the business the more it grows which ultimately opens up more employment opportunities
Which is why the Salesforce economy is forecasted to create 9.3 MILLION jobs by 2026
I'm not saying big tech doesn't have it's warts, but frankly the logic in this post is f***ed 3 ways from Sunday
Rant over
Creative Director, Partner @ Bright Bright Great & Avondale Type Co.
So Salesforce has let go of 1000 people in 2024, but hired Elton John to perform at their annual Dreamforce conference. This is a perfect crystal clear example of how big tech is fucked and why you should support non big-tech as much as possible. 🫠

Looking for a guest speaker to your Salesforce community group or event?
Over the weekend I posted about not getting picked to the Dreamforce guest speakers roster this year. It happens, as Marcos Duran avidly pointed out, c’est la vie.
Well, I do still have six perfectly valid session topics, I’d be happy to present if a suitable opportunity presents itself.
Please drop me DM or comment below, if you’d like to have me join an event! ☺️
