There is currently a major backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. DEI is sometimes unfairly blamed for incidents like a cargo ship hitting Baltimore's Key Bridge or dismissed as meaningless corporate jargon used to justify hiring underrepresented individuals who lack the necessary experience and qualifications for excellence. However, when implemented correctly, DEI unequivocally disproves both of these claims. In my talk this Tuesday, 23rd April at the WomenTech Network Global Conference, I will share some evidence-based, practical DEI practices that can yield powerful results for business growth and maximizing talent potential. How many times have you attended an industry conference and found yourself watching panel after panel, keynote after keynote, with only men on the stage? It's not a great feeling. Only 26% of the tech industry's workforce is women. The numbers are worse at the leadership level - women make up only 20% of tech leadership roles. Food and beverage isn't much better; entry-level jobs are 47% held by women, but that drops significantly to 23% for senior management positions. There's a lot more to say here - and we haven't even started discussing racial diversity in tech and food, representation, pay gaps, discrimination, family leave, recruiting, higher education, etc. etc. etc - But the bottom line is: Who are we seeing represented in our meetings, our boardrooms, our company events, our brand vision? What goes by 'default' when we don't make active decisions? At Tastewise, we're working to answer those questions differently. I'm proud that we have 50% female senior leadership, 52% total female employees, and leadership that prioritizes diversity initiatives... AND we recognize there's still much work to be done. That's why I'm incredibly proud that at the Generative AI Food Pioneers Summit, *50% of the thought leaders on stage are women*. It's the first conference I've been to where this many women are given the stage to share their perspective, experience, skills, vision, and brilliance. The execution behind the scenes for the Summit, often managed by women and frequently publicly under-appreciated, is also 50% shared with male employees. These are steps in the right direction. As I reconnect with the routine after an electrifying experience at the Women in Tech Summit this weekend, I find myself filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It was an opportunity to be a speaker and a profound honor to engage with such a passionate and intelligent audience. I was genuinely blown away by the impact of Third Stage Consulting Group Stage on the marketplace. Witnessing first-hand the strides we are making towards inclusivity, transparency, integrity, and diversity in tech was inspirational. I never expected people to know us, but hearing how our content has positively impacted our audience brings me deep joy. However, with only 29% of women holding leadership positions in the tech sector, we are reminded of the journey ahead. In my career, I've been fortunate enough to receive some of the best advice from conferences just like this one—gems of wisdom that have guided me in navigating the complex landscape as a female leader in technology. The insights shared, the stories told, and the connections made have been invaluable. This is why my core mission—to bring more women into this space—resonates more deeply than ever. As I mentioned in my talk, 'pay it forward' is not just a phrase; it's a call to action. The road to change might be long, and the changes we seek won't happen overnight, but I firmly believe that our collective efforts can create a significant impact. #Canneslions2024 Was a great learning experience but there were also things that requires follow up. In The Room Where It happens. I did not experience the Palais, where awards were being handed out. From the videos I saw, African American presence did not reflect the relative diversity I saw on the Croisette (strip). The jury diversity has improved the last few years which is a plus. Hoping to hear the room and awards were well-represented from those in attendance. DEI (employee, influencer and supplier representation) formula has yet to be cracked. From optimizing diverse employee retention and success to a formula that balances performance KPIs but also the impact of culture in brand growth is still a work in progress. Shondaland and Fenty are just a few examples of recent billion dollar generating content and entities. The disproportionate nature of influencers of color that impact the broader culture is still not quantified in ways that make CFOs sign checks. Hispanic-specific media allocation of 4% seems low considering their population size, telenovela popularity among non-Hispanics and latina weather reporter memes. We are way past mostly testing diversity suppliers. We are an industry of change makers and innovators, who push our clients to be more agile, yet some of our long-standing shortcomings are glaring. The only way I see to do that is revise the metrics and incorporate more MMM rigor to diversity-owned and led properties. Scale AND impact!

Allyship is so much more than just talking about the importance of a topic, it is acting on it, educating yourself and others, raising awareness. Allyship is so important if we want to see real change: 🤝 Women can't be the only feminists. 🤝 Minorities can't be the only ones raising awareness for inclusion. 🤝 Marginalised groups can't be the only ones calling out discrimination. 🤝 Underrepresented groups can't be the only ones calling for representation.

Reflecting on an Incredible Panel Discussion - I had the honor of being a panelist in a thought-provoking Women in Tech Leader Panel, with about 200 employees participating globally and I'm filled with inspiration from the insightful discussions, shared experiences and even the questions from the audience! Throughout the event, we delved into: Overcoming Challenges: We shared personal stories of resilience on the face of setbacks and the importance of authenticity in finding fulfillment; highlighting the importance of navigating unconscious bias, assumptions and stereotypes in the tech industry. Allyship in Action: It was heartening to witness the active role men played as allies in promoting diversity and fostering inclusive environments. Their genuine support and commitment were truly commendable. Empowerment & Advocacy: We discussed valuable strategies for women to thrive in their tech careers, emphasizing the role of empowerment, self-advocacy, and mentorship. We also talked about evolving technology creating opportunities for career growth and the importance of embracing new opportunities.
