Campaigner for safe roads with Brake, and co-founder of Proud Changemakers looking to elevate LGBTQIA+ folks across the voluntary sector.
What’s it like to be LGBTQIA+ in the workplace? Attending and speaking at the LGBTQ+ in the workplace conference, I found out a lot of worrying but sadly not surprising facts about being LGBTQIA+ at work. ➡ 30% of bisexual or pansexual employees are not out at work ➡ 20% of LGBT+ workers experience discrimination during recruitment and promotion ➡ Trans, non binary and bisexual staff face the greatest risk of workplace discrimination ➡ 15% of young adults went back into the closet when they started work ➡ 40% of LGBT+ employees have experienced workplace conflict in the last 12 months ➡ 49% of those who are ace are not out to their colleagues ➡ 1 in 4 HR managers cannot remember the last time they reviewed their LGBT+ policies All of this (waves arms) is not creating inclusive workplaces for LGBTQIA+ folks. As a society, as a sector, we need to do better. That's why we started Proud Changemakers because everyone deserves to go to work, be themselves and thrive. 🌈 Quick thank you to all the speakers and Dr Clara Barker for her excellent facilitation. I loved being offered the chance to talk about creating trans inclusive workplaces and I learned so much from all the other speakers too. Before you go, I urge you to watch this video, think about how you can amend the direction of your organisation towards inclusivity for all and then be the change. https://lnkd.in/gnyWtW43

Guess what ⁉️ YOU are diverse.💡 Many people think diversity means to be part of a certain community, a particular skin colour, or even have some special feature. Well, spoiler alert : it is more than that! 🔊 Diversity simply means that you have something that differentiates you from others. As Nicole Piggott says in the clip below, if you are a human being, then you are diverse. Watch the full clip on Youtube to know more : https://lnkd.in/eMg2ArUD

In a world filled with images and stereotypes, it's essential to look beyond appearances. Snap judgments often lead us astray, preventing us from truly understanding the rich tapestry of each person's life. Take Jane Doe, for example – she may seem unassuming, but she's a published author, a skilled pianist, and a tireless advocate for social justice. Appearance alone doesn't reveal the depths of her character. Let's break free from harmful stereotypes and biases. Embrace inclusivity and understanding. Instead of quick judgments, engage in meaningful conversations and discover the layers that make people who they are. #Inclusivity #Understanding #NoJudgment #DiversityMatters

CEO @ Base 11, STEM Workforce, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship Development | Board Director | Impact Media & Filmmaker
Performative diversity in media and entertainment can do more harm than good when it comes to genuine representation. It sends a hollow message that diversity is a checkbox rather than a meaningful commitment. When diversity is superficial, it fails to capture the richness of different cultures and experiences, leading to stereotypes and misrepresentations that reinforce biases. Authentic representation, on the other hand, ensures that diverse voices are not only present but also heard and valued. It's about creating spaces where all stories can be told with depth and respect. #Diversity #Representation #Media #Entertainment
