Standing Up Teams: Introduction and Overview Program Update! The first session takes place on 06 November at 12pm ET. The first session, in the series, will explore the entry point for the program which is: is a security team right for my House of Worship? The session will highlight the pertinent questions to be explored, introduce the key concepts and considerations, look at various approaches Houses of Worship and communities have taken, and how to get started on the path toward developing the appropriate security structure for your House of Worship. Specific topics to be explored: ➤ Everyone’s starting point may be a bit different, but the foundational steps remain the same ➤ Teams that have no foundation in need will always be mis-allocated ➤ Teams that are formed based on what the fear is, vs. what the need is will always fail because the expectation is unrealistic ➤ Getting the right key stakeholders to anchor your team and setup appropriate accountability is essential ➤ There will be Dragons (obstacles /threats to your program) - Be Prepared to Slay Them https://lnkd.in/gg6USMp

Recent Pitch Result- 12 people on the call- the third call with this VC- The Company had sent them a beautiful, 10 page deck, a brief 4 paragraph introduction email. And some specialized documents as requested (security audit and example contract with a customer). The only person on that call that finished any attachment (Deck or requested pieces) was the 23 year old associate. 8 of the people on the call had never opened the deck. I though this might just be an issue with how we tracked the documents. After all, what would 10 people waste an hour? So I gently backchanneled. Everyone the system indicated had not read anything.... actually had not read anything. Knowing your audience is the first rule of presentation. Imagine knowing that no one on the call has read the documents we gathered to discuss? Imagine that they all said they did? Chris Voss wrote a great book about his version of the Black Swan. This is it and knowing how to handle it was key. Thakl Chris! #Pitch #Presentation #Communication #BusinessMeeting #VCfunding #neversplitthedifferenc

I'm pleased to say my virtual careers talk from BSides Leeds is now available! Many thanks to the most excellent BSides Leeds crew for making this happen. The cyber industry is frequently criticised for not having experts who can communicate clearly, and at the right levels. In 25 years of building, training and running pen test teams, I can confidently say I've made every communications error in the book. In this talk I share my most career-limiting moments - and more importantly what I learned along the way. I'll cover examples including dealing with clients, collaboration failures, fooling yourself and why clients hate being ignored (and why sometimes you have to ignore clients). The talk is suitable for all audiences; those starting out in their career, those already involved in cyber roles, or those who have the job of turning technical content into clear, actionable advice.

Organizations are like Slime Mold 🤯 Wait... WHAT? In Lenny's latest interview, there was a reference to this. Yes, it's a click-bait title, but I fell for it. It refers to an emoji style presentation drawn up by Alex Komoroske. And then I started reading it... all 170 slides of it... non-stop. 👩🌾 Alex has created an incredible storyline. I love how he explains "coordination headwind", how size and complexity slow down organizations. And, how he accepts there are no easy solutions. And then goes into what to do, and what not to do. Accept that organizations are like slime mold, and be a gardener Caught your attention? Here you go: https://lnkd.in/gWFKDnV8

Growth Stage Chief Revenue Officer | Start-Up Advisor/Investor | Podcast Host: "How to UnF*ck Your Startup"
CRO job security isn't guaranteed, even with success. B2B SaaS CROs (say that 5 times fast) typically stay 1.5 - 2.5 years in their role. A 2.5-year tenure allows CROs to implement and prove their strategies - while shorter tenures signal mismanagement or failure to recognize progress. Ironically, your success can become a vulnerability. Once you've built an effective system, boards might replace you with their preferred candidate to control what you've created. To protect yourself, avoid at-will employment. Negotiate a 2-year contract with performance-based renewal clauses. This ensures mutual commitment and aligns incentives. How do you secure your position when taking on executive roles? The full episode with Warren Zenna, Founder of The CRO Collective, is now live at: https://lnkd.in/g5pssXqf

Interested to know what IT-responsible professionals actually think about using awareness training? “Generally, I think the concept of awareness training is genius. I believe a lot of our employees' IT knowledge is below the level that we expect it to be. It’s nice for me to see that the IT department can increase the level of knowledge.” - Mads, DTU Biosustain. We have turned the entire interview into a short three-minute video (in Danish) where we explore Mads' thoughts on: ▪️ The most important initiatives for creating awareness ▪️ What he likes about awareness training, and ▪️ How awareness training can be beneficial. In today's landscape, every company is exposed to attacks, as many cyber-attacks are automated and don’t specifically target any particular companies.
