🌟 Exciting Publication Announcement! 🌟 I am delighted to share that our research has been published in the special issue of Materials MDPI, highlighting the potential of Functional Materials in advancing sustainable energy solutions! Our study focuses on optimizing the synthesis conditions of sulfated zirconia to enhance the catalytic behavior of bifunctional composite catalysts. These catalysts are prepared by mixing sulfated zirconia (a methanol dehydration catalyst) with Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 (CZA; a methanol synthesis catalyst). The goal? To develop an efficient CZA-ZrO2/SO4²⁻ composite catalyst for the direct production of dimethyl ether (DME) from syngas. DME is a promising future fuel that is environmentally friendly and has a low carbon footprint. DME stands out as a sustainable alternative fuel due to its clean combustion properties, resulting in lower emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. This makes a viable option for reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our environment. This work was achieved through a collaboration between our Laboratory of Material Chemistry and Catalysis at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis and the Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica of Madrid. We are immensely grateful for the support and contributions from the colleagues and mentors at both institutions. #SustainableEnergy #DME #FutureFuel #LowCarbon #FunctionalMaterials #Catalysis #GreenTechnology #ScientificPublication

🌱 The BIOTRANSFORM project is all about transformation pathways to a circular bioeconomy that will be showcased in six regional case-studies across Europe. While CLIB is analysing the opportunities for the chemical industry in NRW, our partners are facing their own regional challenges. How can other European countries and regions learn from our findings? In a recently finished milestone, we chose indicators to reduce the complexity of the transformation paths, communicate the results in an easily understandable way, and make them comparable with similar regions. Once finished, you will find the results of our efforts on the BIOTRANSFORM website. #biotransform #bioeconomy #circularbioeconomy #HorizonEurope VTT| alchemia-nova| Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) | VITO| CTA (Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía) | @CluBE - Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia | CLIB - Cluster Industrielle Biotechnologie | BIOEAST HUB Czech Republic | @ACR+ | @Association-of-Cities-and-Regions-for-sustainable-Resource-management | Q-PLAN INTERNATIONAL

Last Friday, the strategy document I wrote with #Romchimica regarding the transition of the Romanian chemical industry to a greener, more sustainable and more digital future was presented in a conference organized by the Romanian government and #Cefic. This is the biggest transformation the chemical industry faces, it will cost billions to achieve the targets, but there´s no alternative. Resource and energy efficiency must increase, alternative production processes less dependent on harmful or rare raw materials must be developed, bureaucracy must be reduced, and best practices must be shared within the EU. It can be done, but there´s no time to waste. The "Romanian Transition Pathway of Chemical Industry towards Green Economy and Digitalization" - so the official title of the paper - stands besides similar strategy documents of other European countries. Challenges are similar all over Europe, but maybe somewhat more pressing in Romania, given the budgetary constraints that do not allow for an unlimited support by state aid. Therefore it will be even more important that Romanian companies participate at the European programs - and we can help obtaining grants for R&D and their investments. In today’s post, we introduce CSIC, which is one of 18 international partners in the CAPTUS Project. Established in 1939, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is Spain's largest public research institution and the third-largest in Europe. Operating under the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, its primary goal is to advance scientific and technological progress. The CSIC aims to foster, coordinate, and promote multidisciplinary research to contribute to knowledge advancement and economic, social, and cultural development. Additionally, it provides expertise to public and private entities and plays a role in staff training. CSIC is implicated in the work packages concerning the production of acetate and triglycerides from steel industry emissions, exploitation and communication and dissemination activities. As the leader of the Task 3.2, CSIC is the developer and provider of improved yeast strains in demonstration site 1 for liquid fermentation processes. www.csic.es/es www.captusproject.eu #CAPTUS #EnergyCarriers #CarbonCapture #HorizonEurope #IndustrialCarbonEmission #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #GreenTechnology

#ICIQSeminar | 🙌Thank you Prof. Concepcion Javier from Brookhaven National Laboratory for delivering a seminar about Catalysts and Mechanisms for CO2 Reduction and Water Oxidation Related to Solar Liquid Fuels 🌊 Prof. Javier Concepción presented a new mechanism for water oxidation catalysis (WOC) with molecular catalysts, a WOC platform that follow a ligand-based approach. These catalysts are very robust because they follow a “self-healing” mechanism. 🖇 Because the mechanism is ligand-based, no open coordination site is required and this enables the development of highly active molecular catalysts for water oxidation with first-row transition metals. 🎢 The results presented by Prof. Concepción demonstrated a cascade for CO to MeOH using organic hydrides. Cascade strategies using a combination of catalysts that can carry out some of the required multistep reactions are being pursued because achieving this goal with a single catalyst is difficult. 🔵Also thanks to our seminar sponsor BASF ICERCA - Centres de Recerca de Catalunya | SOMM Alliance | Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST)

The development of Clinical Diagnosis tools, one of INIC's main activities in 2024 Dr. Emad Ahmadvand, in a news conference held in Nowruz, highlighted the achievements of IRAN Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council in 2023 while elaborating on some of Its plans for 2024. At the beginning of our discussion, the Secretary General of IRAN Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council (INIC) announced the issuance of nano-scale certificates for nearly 400 new products in 2023. Dr. Ahmadvand highlighted the successful implementation of Nanobubble technology at the Saveh water treatment plant pump stations, emphasizing its potential to enhance water quality and improve the quality of life in other cities facing similar challenges. This marks a significant advancement, as Nanobubble technology has primarily been utilized for wastewater treatment in Iran and globally, with its application for drinking water treatment being a novel development. The project's success underscores its potential to address water quality issues on a broader scale, offering hope for its widespread adoption in the future. https://lnkd.in/dyQMcU-J #INIC #IRAN_Nano #Micro #IRAN #Nano #Nanobubble #Saveh_water #wastewater #nanotechnology
