This is the kind of devices that I may take for granted, as it is so common in our production range, I may be driven to concentrate only on high speed devices, but during the last exhibition I had the chance to talk with a potential customer who had several issues on the line because the dynamic merger he had installed in his line, even if performing correctly for the purpose of merging, was creating problems downstream.
The main problem was that downstream the merger he has a checkweigher that require a minimum pacing between the products to perform correctly and the existing device is not capable of giving this result, it does not have enough phasing conveyors.
There are multiple factors that drive the correct sizing of a dynamic merger: linear speed, production rate upstream and number of inlet lanes being the most important. Also, never underestimate the knowledge of how the products are arriving from upstream and how they need to be delivered downstream.
Dynamic mergers are a key component in modern packaging lines. The increasing production rate and the requirement to reduce the packging material call for systems that can handle product with zero or at least extremely low pressure between one and the other.
For this reason merging products with phasing units that allow one to one action and keeping a regular pacing downstream is becoming of paramount importance.
This particular device have been delivered some years ago and it was in the entry level configuration with aluminum frame belt conveyors. It was a multiple format line that required some software fine tuning as the length of the packages could go from 180 to 380 mm.
